Well I have a new machine, made my first thing on it, a pair of maternity pants for my daughter that turned out great. Now I am onto a pair of dress slacks for her and she likes stripes and plaids. Sooooo, I have some plaid material I will be laying out and cutting today, I could sure use some tips since this is my first time ever sewing plaids.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jolene, welcome to Sew Whats New. :bluesmile

Sewing with plaids is not so bad. I would think a small plaid would be nice for slacks. Did you want to match the plaid?

I have them cut out now. I cut each piece separatley and layed the first piece on top of the second one and matched them. Today I will be sewing them. Should be interesting.

Joelene do you have a walking foot? i would never attempt plaids without one, the seam never matches up at the end... let us know how it goes. good luck

I just want to thank everyone. I have started sewing today and I am just so excited so far that I had to jump on here. I have just done the center front seam so far and am in process of sewing in the yoke panel now. I layed it out one piece at a time and I am using my walking foot and things so far look great. You guys are the best! I would never have known this stuff and the more I do that turns out good, the more excited I get about sewing. I will let you know how the final product turns out.

I finished the pants except for the hem and they look great. My husband was really impressed. I don't know how many times I want to do that but I know I have done it once and got lucky getting them to match up.
