I am attempting to sew a simple slip type negligee for my daughter in a satiny polyester with no stretch to it at all. In my previous attempt, I was really disappointed with the way the facings fit, making it look quite bulky and homemade. I ripped it all out and tried to redo it with a ribbon facing, but am still not happy with the finished result. I'd like to do away with the facings and just do a rolled hem for the neckline, is this a good idea? Will it pucker on the curves? Do I interface it at all? Any suggestions?? This is for her trousseau and I want it to be beautiful for her. Thanks! Laura

I think a rolled hem would be fine...you might want some seam tape though...I've seen it in clear and woven types..keeps things tidy.

Have you thought about lining it instead of facings. I think this would make a nicer edge. Barb Barb

I thought about lining it, but it is quite heavy the way it is now. I may attempt the rolled hem using a seam tape though on a scrap I have left. Thanks!

Hastily staring at my satiny underwear I see it has self binding on the seams at the neck line and armpit. Finishes it nicely.

Sorry not to get back to you earlier, the board was down from here. Cut the binding from self ( or contrasting )fabric on the bias. Sew the shoulder and side seams. Sew the ends of the bindings, right sides together to form a circle the same size as your armhole. Fold the binding in double, wrong sides and raw edges together. Divide the binding and the armhole into forths with pins Place the binding on the right side of the armhole, with the raw edges togethe, matching the pins. Match the seam on the binding to the side seam. Sew on the binding using a 1/4inch seam allowance. Fold the binding over the seam allowance to the wrong side and in inplace. sew with a straight stitch on the right side as close as possible to the seam. Be sure to catch the binding on the wrong side of the opening with your stitches. Hope this makes sense, it's easier to show than to tell love and kisses, Jan
