Hello,

My friend has given me his karate uniform to fix because he no longer is affiliated with the shcool that is printed on the back of it. He has cut out a logo from another piece of clothing he wants to use to cover the old logo.

This "patch" is frayed and needs hemmed first, but then how do I attach it nicely to the back of the uniform so it doesn't look like a mess. It's not even going to completely cover the old one as some red will still show around the edge in places.

Any ideas how to do this?????????????????

Thank you,
Melinda:nc:

You can satin stitch (short, wide zigzag) all around the patch, then trim as close as possible to the stitching. No hemming will be necessary. It helps to use a fusible web or basting spray to tack the patch in place first so it doesn't shift around, and would also help to use a stabilizer so the stitching doesn't buckle.

If you trim off the frayed edges you can run the satan stitch so it is half on and half off the applique so you don't have to trim the finished applique. And you could put it on a complimentary color first then applique both of them over the old logo. But be sure you are not adding too much bulk.
