Hi everyone. We arrived here in Key West yesterday. We drove down from Naples, Florida. A very long trip but certainly worth it.
We saw a lot while we were driving but first Washington.

Washington was very cold but I really enjoyed seeing the Smithsonian. We went back 4 times and could have gone a lot more than that. I finally saw the Hope Diamond. Unbelieveable, surrounded by a glass case and security guards.

We also went to the aeronautical museum at the Dulles Airport. Saw the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The Concorde and the plane the Wright brothers built and flew as well. If anyone ever gets the chance to go, by all means go. It is a once in a lifetime experience. Many of the buildings had security checks before we were allowed in. Then, we flew on to Ft. Lauderdale and rented a car, drove to Naples.

Naples, Florida is just beautiful. I loved it and it is a short walk from white beaches. Awesome. Beautiful shops, tons of restaurants and the most stylish women you will see anywhere. Our weather was perfect, most restaurants had outside patios where everyone "did lunch"

Then, we drove down to Key West yesterday. A very long drive (5 hrs.) but worth every minute of it. The Florida keys is a very long, narrow strip of land that stretches out forever. The most beautiful blue/green water on either side. On our trip here, we went thru a few Indian towns. The Miccosukee (sp?) tribe I believe. We saw a road sign that said "panther crossing" and there were state prisoners doing repairs to the roads, fences, etc. Guards watched closely. We saw lots of alligators basking in the sun, herons and a pelican crunching up lunch. LOL.
We took lots of pictures. I will show them to you when I get the camera organized.

We have two huge suitcases, one summer and one winter. After almost 3 weeks, I don't have a good clue where anything is. It is about 80 degrees here and the humidity is high. Barry is sunburned and smilin"
:bg: :bg:

I am having problems with the internet. This hotel advertised hi-speed internet. It is an attachment that plugs into our laptop. However, they only have a few. When we asked for one, they never had any available so we got a little huffy and said we needed one TODAY!!! Now we have internet, but email is not going very smoothly. Not sure what is up with that. I haven't sent out a newsletter in 5 days, but I will try tonight. How is everyone?

Hello Mary, So glad you enjoyed Naples. Mary, how did you like going over the 7 mile bridge to get to the keys ? Isn't it beautiful ? As we always say when crossing it " water water everywhere but not a drop to drink ".Where we live we have a lake at the back of our yard & we have gators in it & on the island in the middle of the lake. Blue herons & other wild birds stroll in the back yard. Huge turtles come up & lay there eggs close to the house & pool screens. What a wonderful place to live & raise children, & now our grandchildren. Needless to say, we love Naples. Please come back again & maybe we can " do lunch " Theresa ( beach girl )

Mary it's so nice of you to fill us in on your trip as you go along. I'm glad you are having a wonderful time in the warm part of the country now. Florida is beautiful and the water down there is like no other. Thanks for telling us about all your traveling and keep safe while you're on the road. Take care and don't let the gators get you. LOL

Hugs Susie

Susie, I'm with you, it's great that Mary is encluding all of us in her trip. You live in a beautiful state also. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm bragging when I talk about where we live as I'm not. We aren't one of the many wealthy people that live here. We're working class & moved here in Jan.1970. Was a simple quiet fishing village then that was starting to grow. We've lived in this home 26 yrs. Guess I just wanted to clear that up in case I came off sounding different. I love this site & think your all a great bunch. Theresa

Hey Thersa, By your comments, I didn't think anything by the way you wrote except I thought you were a youngster by your screen name. I thought you were a beach bunny, LOL Not really just poking fun. But you do sound young until I see you have grandchildren. You're young at heart anyway huh? That's what we are just average people trying to make a simple living. Our community is a fishing community. The seafood is great here and fresh all the time. I had fired fish and fried shrimp tonight for supper. I had boiled crayfish the other night. UUUUUUMMMMM Yummy.

I can't wait to see the pictures of Mary's trip. It'll make us feel like we went with her. Mary you have to take some pictures of yourself in short sleeves and peddle pushers so your friends up North of here will really envy you then. LOL

It's cold here tonight. Temps in the 30'sF Burrrrrrrrrr Even the heater is not kicking off tonight. My grandson's cat ran away two nights ago I sure hope someone scooped her up and has her inside, poor baby she'll freeze out there. We tried for two days to find her and she isn't anywhere. She's a little thing too only about 5 months old. I hope she'll be okay. She's not use to staying outside either.

Washington was wonderful. I would go back in a minute. One thing my husband and I both commented on was how very polite the people were. No pushing, shoving or curt remarks.

We have travelled quite a bit and found some really rude people.
That's life, but Washington was great. We are staying in Key West until Sunday I think, then we go up to Boynton Beach. I think that is what it is called.

I'm so encouraged by how much you like Washington, Mary. If the weather ever improves I'm inspired to get on the Metro and go in to the city for some culture. I guess growing up in NYC, living in Boston and Philadelphia as an adult, I am spoiled and don't realize what I have here. I do appreciate and enjoy it, but it doesn't strike me as being as special an environment as it is. These days I worry a lot about my husband riding the metro daily, about working where he does. etc. He works in a building specially designed to withstand a bomb. :nervous:

We have friends who moved here from Key West this year and are adjusting to the cold and snow. The daughter is enjoying sledding, but the shovelling and driving are not as much fun. Your description makes me wonder why they are't heading back right now.

Believe it or not! There is a restaurant here that welcomes nude customers. You don't go in nude, but you dine in the nude. :nervous:

It would be a sad sight indeed, us two old fogies sitting around in the nude trying to dodge the cracker crumbs. :bg:

I'll forego that image for now but it might be a good place to go if you're dieting cause that would definitely turn your appetite off. Kind of on the level of old men in speedos. LOL

LOL, this is a different kind of town for sure. Lots of old men in speedos here. One is staying in the hotel and he is out by the pool about twelve hrs. a day. LOL.

Chickens are a very common sight, walking down the sidewalks. Some have baby chicks with them. How they manage to stay away from traffic is beyond me. You can hear roosters all the time.

I don't think they ever tear anything down here, some of these buildings are very, very old. Painted to death and still being used. Plumbing is on the outside of some of the buildings and you can see right underneath them. They sit on blocks.
