I am a dressmaker, and a costume designer. I am 26 and have been sewing since i was 10. The problem is that every costume/bridal shope that I have worked in have had many different types of machines, all falling apart from years of use. I personally have a Husqvarna, since 1999 and I love it. I have the opportunity to pick out a machine that my boss will pay for. I need help choosing. I need speed, and lots of it. A power horse, if you will. And I need to work on it 40 hours a week from silks to leather, and thick denim. I love my Husqvarna, but I need more speed, I think. and suggestions? I don't care about embroidery, or too many fancy stitches. Do I need to go industrial?

Sounds like you will need an industrial machine. Machines designed for home sewing aren't designed for that much 'punishment'

Good luck in your search.
Take care,

Thanks for the response. I am afraid that my boss can't afford an industrial right now. But I loved working on them at different jobs that I've had. I have my eye on the Bernina 950 Industrial. That looks like what I need.

Check out the new Janome 6500 P - it is a new professional grade home machine. About $1200-$1500 I think. www.janome.com

Pfaff sewing machines have an industrial hook and will take lots of wear and tear. I also love the IDF system (built in walking foot) for sewing delicate fabrics. I've sewn everything from denims to silks, satins, chiffons on my Pfaff 7570 without any problems. Since your employer can deduct the cost of the machine from his business profits, I would think he would go for an industrial model (even a used one). Anyway, good luck and Happy Stitching!!! Darling,

I know from experience that my Janome MC 9000 is a very good machine. It embroideries but also sews beautiful. I love it and it's quiet. Everyone comments on how professional it sews. My opinion is to test drive a few and ask questions, lots of questions before I decide, especially if you are recommending it for your boss. You are probably going to pay for what you get. unforunately that's how it works most of the time.
