Am in the market for a sewing machine - bought a Kenmore over 30 years ago, and am amazed at the changes! Am narrowing it down to a Brother 8500D - want to branch out into embroidery. Any opinions/experience on this machine? Have just begun to learn quilting, have made a couple of tops, and would like to incorporate embroidery, quilting, sewing. This model good for all three? What is good price range, and what accessories should I ask for? All advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you. |

Buying a sewing machine is very personal ... what works for one may not be right for another ... I would visit several dealers and try their mid-line machines as well as their top of the line models. Try sewing on various fabrics (take your own swatches) and then try the decorative and embroidery stitches. Know what your budget will allow you to spend. Many dealers offer a "same as cash" financing plan that wills fit your budget. Don't be afraid to buy more machine than you currently use. More than likely you will eventually use the other features. Don't be pressured into buying the first model you try. You will know instinctively which one is right for you. Good luck and let us know what you find. Happy Stitching! Thanks, Marty: I had to take a break on my search, and will hopefully resume again soon. I am taking a quilting class this week, so definately will need a good new machine very soon. Appreciate your response - will keep you posted on what I finally get. Again, thanks |
