I am still fairly new to sewing. I bought some fabric that said dry clean only. Someone told me that I could try to wash a sample in wool lite and if it didn't shrink, then it would be ok to wash it instead of drycleaning. Is this true? The fabric was a little pricey and I don't want to ruin it. Would rather wash if possible. Thanks for your help.

hi Judie,
I would follow the advise that you have been given. Measure the sample and check for shrinkage etc. I am no expert on fabric but it might help if we knew what the fibre content was.
I have successfully handwashed dry clean only wool fabric with no noticable effects
I am sure others here will have more pearls of wisdom about this

Before you commit the entire piece cut off a small sample, draw around it on a piece of paper. After washing compare the outline and the piece for size, and the piece and the rest for texture and color. Also stitch or serge around your sample to prevent fraying which will distort the size.
