We have just been hit with the worst storm in years. We have about two feet of snow with very high winds. This is the first time I have seen all our windows and doors covered in snow.

They have called all the snowplows off the road until visibility improves. Absolutely everything is closed.

They say we will get another foot or so of snow before it lets up. Jordan will be off school until Monday and my washing machine never arrived.

My sympathies are with you Mary. We are having a heat wave in Michigan near 40 degrees everyday through the weekend. I hope some of the snow & ice melts. It's not spring yet but better than what we had the last few weeks.

The gov't. just claimed the province to be in a state of emergency. Now they can bring in extra plows from out of the province.

One of our neighbors with a plow just got stuck in front of our house. The snow is over his plow. LOL. If the wind would stop, the kids would be outside having a blast.

(yes I do know what it's like to live in snow, I've lived in CO (3yrs) and MT (2- 1/2 yrs))

I know why yer washer didn't make it Miss Mary....the old one called it on the cellphone and warned it about the 'vacation' clothes...:bolt:

And just how long ago was it that you were so glad to be home sweet home?
It's been very cold and snowy here too. It did warm up a bit but just as everything started to thaw the temperature dropped again and now all the sidewalks are a sheet of ice. I've hit the ground 3 times this year and I'm not even walking the dog until it melts. Breaking something important would really be a pain.
Many schools have used up all their snow days.
Down the street someone made a snowman laid out on a lawn lounge with Hawaiian print shorts, sun glasses and a beer in its hand. If you can't go south you might as well laugh about it.
But it is not as bad as you have it so hang in there Mary.

Wow Mary!!!! I'm so glad you didn't lose your electricity! That sounds just awful.

It was so warm here today, we were out shoveling the driveway without coats on! And there were FLIES. Blech. BTW, Barb, where in MI are you? I'm in Mid-MI, moving back to the 'burbs in a couple of weeks.....sigh.

Keep warm Mary, be safe!

I'm in Lansing. I went to the grocery store yesterday with no coat, just a sweatshirt. It felt wonderful ! The only downfall is My husband was going back to work (He owns his own buissness) & won't be able to haul the equipment because weight laws will be on & we don't have the $ right now to fix the trailer to make it legal. He hasn't worked much this winter because it has been to cold & now he can't because it is too warm. I guess you can't win.
Where is Hockeytown.

We were up this morning at 6 am, shovelling. The driveway is 3'-4' deep and some places even more. There is a drift beside our house that is over our heads. Jordan is getting more exercise than he's had for six months. LOL.

We have some older folks we have to shovel out too. The roads aren't all done yet, but our van goes thru it fairly well. The sun is shining and it's not that cold, about 35 degrees.

I heard the weatherman say we are supposed to get more on Sunday. Hope he is wrong.

Hi Barb, Hockeytown is Detroit - I live in Birch Run at the moment, but will be moving back to Southfield in a few weeks. Too close to Detroit for me, but we'll be moving again in August hopefully, to the country SOMEWHERE in MI, lol!

Mary, I hope you don't get anymore snow.....that's enough already, lol!!!!! Please be careful shoveling!

Mary, that sounds just terrible. I'm sorry you have to go thru all this. Now, wouldn't you want to go back to Florida? Or maybe come to Las Vegas, like you said????

Hi Adva -- long time no hear from you!! Welcome back. Now that we know Mary is okay in her snowbank, do you think we need to send the dog with the keg tied around his neck to find JoAnn? We never hear from her anymore so I have to assume she's buried under cones of embroidery thread or snow. :nervous:

Mary you should have come to New Orleans for Mardi Gras this week. Today we were in the 70's, I had the air conditioner on. I can't imagine that much snow all around my house. It would scare me to death. I know you must know how to handle these kinds of problems but you must have to prepare for this in the beginning of winter, enough food and things like that in case you can't get to the grocery stores. Do you lose power when this happens? If we have a dustying of snow here we are like crazy people we come to a stand still until it quits and we thaw out which is not too long since it doesn't happen but once every 15 years or so.

I'll keep you in my thoughts. I know you must have power, you're still on the puter. LOL:bg: Do you have backup generators for these storms like we have on hand for hurricanes? I thought hurricanes were scary I think the snow is just as bad. Keep safe and as warm as possible.

Hugs Susie

Last time it snowed here 320 kids absented themselves from school because THEY decided it was a snow day ( it wasn't) we had 1/2 " of snow for crying out loud - they all just bunked off!
My daffodills are nearly in bloom here, the hawthourn is all in blossom and the catkins are trembling in the hedgerows. So to make a change, it threatened snow this morning - a light spatteriing, just enough to make you need to scrape the windscreen. Keep warm Mary, I don't envy you the handwashing, not when you can't get to any rocks to bang the clothes against!
I'm sure Jordan LOVVVVES the excercise!
love and kisses, Jan

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras here and it may be a soggy Fat Tuesday. It's been raining here all day and this morning we were under tornado warnings. The temp on the ground has been around 58 / 60 F but as a severe thunderstorm passed over city this morning one man on the 32 floor of one downtown office building said as the storm was pounding rain against the glass of his office, it suddenly stopped and he saw snow flakes falling. LOL (Now being in New Orleans makes me wonder if he's not celebrating Mardi Gras a little early.....you know a little sip sip) or maybe he did see snow. Strange things happen in this city.

Also, a ship sunk in the mouth of the Mississippi River Saturday and has caused all ship traffic up and down river to come to a halt. There's three cruise ships having to detour to the Miss Gulf Coast to load and unload. It will take several days before they can get the sunken vessel out the way. Three cruise ships are staranded out of the river and one is caught in the port of NO which is not a problem since tomorrow is Mardi Gras and they'll have a little extra attraction on their itenararies.(sP?) :bluewink: But the Port of NO is a hugh port for retailers up and down the river. This is how they get their stock into their stores via container cargo. Target being one of them. This could be a real problem if it goes on for longer than a few days they are saying on the news tonight.

Happy Mardi Gras Everyone!!!!!!

Susie
