Hi! Does anyone know of how to get a manual for my UHTJ 1944 Montgomery Ward sewing machine? I've looked at a lot of online places, but it seems Ward's machine manuals are not that commonplace. Thank you! Kim

Hi Kim and welcome to Sew Whats New. Go to www.google.com and type in montgomery ward sewing machine manual. You will probably find something there. MaryW

SewingUSA.com sells copies of out of print sewing machine manuals as well as relics.com and then click on the link for sewing machine manuals.. The manuals are about $12 and can be downloaded. Hope this helps. Happy Stitching! Marty

Just as a little side note, this machine was not from 1944. There were no household machines produced until WW2 was over, and for a few years after, MW sold mostly machines made by National in Belvedere, IL, and these were all straight stitch. I suspect that yours is Japanese, likely made by Happy (will usually say so on the bottom) and was made in the mid to late 50s. Bill Holman |

There were sewing machines made before WW II just maybe not the Montgomery Ward one. I have just finished researching one of my machines and it was made in 1919 according to the serial #. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

Bill, You did NOT say no machines made DURING ww II. you said none were made til after.. No wonder she misunderstood.. I do not mean to sound harsh, but go back and read what you wrote..Please don't get angry with me., but she didn't deserve ridicule.. Sew With Love

You're absolutely right Libby. I sometimes forget that there are people who think we lived in caves before WW2. Believe me, I was trying to have fun with her. If I ever decide to ridicule somebody, you'll know it. ;> ) Bill Holman |
