I have just finished New Look 6322, view C. I am ready to put the buttonholes on and they have guides for you to put on your front edge. I don't know what size to use because I have 3 different sizes, one at bust, waist and hips. What is the right one to use? This is my muslin one before I make the one I am going to make for my mom.
Thanks,
Jolene

My first buttonhole goes smack in the middle of the bustline and I space evenly from there. Just my own method. Does anyone else have any suggestions.

Yep, same method I use for placing buttonholes and do you prefer vertical or horizontal buttonholes.?

Vertical button holes tend to come unbuttoned easier if they are put under stress, eventhough I think they look nicer. There is a tool that ratchets and evenly measures your button holes and helps in placement from the edge. I think it is called a Simplex tool.

Hi Pam welcome to Sew-Whats-New. We're almost next door neighbors. LOL I have a Simplex tool but I've never used it. I just do what Mary said - place the first buttonhole at the bustline and then space the remaining buttonholes above and below that button. The fact that vertical button holes do come unbuttoned fairly easy is why I most often use horizontal buttonholes when sewing front buttoning blouses, etc.

I agree also about 1st buttonholes being at the bust apex.I measure my button.usually about 5/8"in from the fold line ,depending how big the button is .
If at first you don't suceed, try-try again!

I would be more than happy to share 3/4 of mine with you Mary. I have enough for me and several other people.
