I don't know if this is the right discussion board, but here goes...I've hooked up with a fellow (he's the husband of a woman that dh works for) that makes pet accessories and such from his home. He's asked me to do some piece work for him...I don't know him at all, and I don't know his wife at all. First job is to make cat blankets - three sides serged, then turned and topstitched. He's offering $0.40 a blanket finished. That sounds low to me...I'd have to sew 37 to make $15 an hour, and I'm using my serger, thread, electriciity, etc. Its not just sewing its turning and pressing the fold. Although I get the idea that I'm not to be picky because he keeps saying the cats don't care. Any opinions on the pay he's offering?

You do as you please but no way would I do that for 40 cents. Now if I had the time & material I no longer wanted & wanted to donate dog or cat blankets to an animal shelter that's different. But for someone to ask me to do it for them for such a low price, I'd be insulted & tell them where they could put their blankets. I'd never dream of asking anyone to do anything for such a low price. Anyway, my thoughts on the matter.

I should have said - to make it clearer - that he's supplying the fabric and batting or whatever, already cut. So that part's done. I can see your point, beachgirl, however we have to keep in mind that this is very basic sewing. I've offered to look at his sample then sew a couple and report back.

Penny, time yourself. How long does it take to pick one up, turn on your machine, thread, turn and do the deed?

Take a good honest look at it and decide for yourself. :bluesmile

Don't press, the cats really don't care.
