Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone could refer me to somewhere to look to have a dress custom made. I am in the Miami area, and it appears that the Miami people aren't really all the interested in having things custom made. I don't even know where to look. I am continually running into dead ends and despite the fact that I have plenty of time before I can even START having the dress made I don't want to come down to the wire and find that there is no one in my area to make my dress. If you can help, even a little, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks much,
Becky

http://www.paccprofessionals.org/

There is a referral service on this site.

Another suggestion is to go into neighborhood with large numbers of recent immigrants from countries without a garment manufacturing industry, as there are probably people who sew for a living. Haitians and Cubans come to mind for the Miami area.

That was not clear enough. Try fabric stores and dry cleaners in those areas, either for suggestions from the owners or to see if people have posted business cards or other notices on the wall. It would help to bring a sketch or photo of something similar, especially if there is a language barrier.
