The other day I purchased 2 large spools of thread (1100 yards). When I got home I realized I had "Rayon...Machine Embrodery" thread. Should I just take it back and replace it with Polyester? Actually I had to go look, to see what kind thread I have been using. TTTT I'm not sure what kind of thread I'm supposed to be using I think you'd say most of the things I sew would use a general purpose thread. Right now I'm working on a costume for a cruise I'm taking in April. Michael

Rayon is great...just don't bleach it....it wears like poly, but won't retain color if it's bleached...it also shines more....

It doesn't have the strength of polyester.

I've bleached the Rayon I use and it kept it's color. I practiced on all my dish cloths when I was learning to embroidery and I bleach them all the time and they still look great. I used the Coats and Clark Rayon from Wally World. |

Rayon will not hold up for seams and such. It is just not strong enough and will break. Use general purpose thread, i.e. cotton-covered polyester or polyester thread for regular sewing. Rayon is fine for decorative stitching, topstitching etc, but not construction. |

Thanks everyone. I think I'll take it back and get the stuff I usually use "cotton-covered polyester". Michael
