You can do embroidery designs on a regular sewing machine but it takes a lot more work. Use the satin stitch feature as well as some of your other decorative stitches. Be sure to add a stabilizer, trace your design on the fabric and use embroidery thread. Think of all of the beautifully embroidered garments that were made before embroidery machines were invented. It just takes a lot of extra work. If you want to try a basic embroidery machine, Brother makes a nice one (PE-150) for less than $500.
I bought a used basic embroidery machne for $150 for my teenage DD. Check around with your local dealers or if you want to order online, check out Allbrands.com or Ken's Sewing Center in Muscle Shoals, AL. The people that I personally know who have ordered from them have been satisfied customers especially with the service they have received. Happy Stitching! Marty
