Hi there! OK, I've decided to do a cape as my first project, I have a pretty straight forward pattern. The thing is I would like to line it with a contrasting colour fabric. Should I basically do 2 capes the same all around, and then stitch them together (sort of like you would a cushion...)?

I would make two capes and then decide if you are going to finish the eges with bias tape (in which case you would treat both capes as one) or like you said like a cushion. Does this cape fasten under the arrms at all? I was just wondering in case you wanted to sew the fastners on the lining only before you sewed the whole thing together. Also how about the front closures. Do they get put on the outside of the cape before the lining gets sewn on so the stitching doesn't show on the lining?

Thanks woodywoodpecker! I'm not sure exactly what bias tape is, I'm in Spain and don't know what this would be called over here. I imagine it's used to get the 2 parts together as one...:nervous: ..? If you could give me a small explanation so I could know what to ask for...
What I would like to know is what is the easiest way for it to come out right, doing it with the bias tape and then treating the 2 parts as 1 or doing as I said at first? How can I get the best (or less disastrous!!) results?

Bias tape is a long piece of material cut on the bias, so it has a little give to ease it around corners and such. You can also make your own. Check out this site for a look, I'm sure you likely know it under a different name.

I was thinking of you using it as a finishing edge on your lined cape. That way you could just baste the cape and the lining edges together and then finish it off with bias tape.
It's kind of funny that you live in Spain as I just started taking a crash course in Spanish a couple of weeks ago.
Hope this helps!

You can also make your own bias tape as well.
