I read this description about a jersey knit rug that used like old tee shirts that is quite plush and soft and yummy, but cannot find a pattern. I did see a pattern for a chenille pattern, but don't think that would work. My mother used to make rugs with old poly pants, cut into 2 inch squares, working with a canvas base, and sewing them into patterns, like checks, once she made a watermelon rug. Does anyone know where I can find something like this? I'd like to make one for my bathroom.

Thanks, Joan

Joan, cant you cut the tknits into stripe like 1" by 6 or 7in. &
the put them threw a rug backing or burlap and knot the
strips? Grannie used to do this.
Also if you are familiar with the Garden Web, there is a site
on it that has info on rag rugs. You can also cut the material
into strips and crochet it after you have braided 3 strips. Its
done with a big crochet hook. Hope this helps.

Well, do you think this might work? I was thinking of cutting the fabric into strips, and then into squares, then sewing those squares onto a piece of burlap type material. YOu can make a pattern that way. My motherh used to do this with polyester pants to make rugs that would catch sand. I was thinking this could make a nice soft rug that you could use for like a bath rug that would feel nice and soft when you get out of the shower. You start in like the middle, and sew the squares about 1/2 inch apart, so they are close and none of the stiffer fabric is exposed.

What do you think?

Joan, I think it would certainly work.In fact a few years ago.I
was cruising antique shops and in one ,the owners mom made
some rugs that was a similar idea, she used poly from pants &
dresses etc. The owner had them scattered about & they were
real eye catching. I was going to buy one but after I looked at
one thought I could make one. However I did not, could not
quite remember how they were done. Now I regret not getting
one. Do make one,I'm sure it would turn out beautifully and
you will have fun doing it.
