I was sent this from one of my lists. Judy is excellent and shares her knowledge. I think this is good. Making a Pants Board A pants board is like a large sleeve board, convenient for pressing pants and many other items. There are two identical boards, a top and a bottom, 3/4" thick and 36 inches long. One end is 6 1/2" wide and tapers to the other end at 3" wide. The 3" end is fully rounded (1 1/2" radius), the wide end is also rounded with 1 1/2" radius corners. The two boards are aligned and separated by 3 dowels, 5 1/2" long and approximately 1 1/4" in diameter. Two dowels are positioned in 2" in from the wide end close to the edge of the board. The third dowel is centered 9" in from the same wide end. Covering the Pants Board To pad the board and make a removable cover, you will need 1 1/8 yards of scrap wool or an old wool blanket for the padding and 1 1/8 yards firmly woven 100% cotton for the cover. To cut the padding, place the board on the wool and trace; add 1/4" around all edges. Cut two or three layers. To cut the under cover, place the board on the cotton. Trace around the narrow edge up to the first dowel (about 26" from the tip of the narrow end); add 3/8" seam allowance. To cut the upper cover, place the board on the cotton and trace the entire board. Place the under layer on top of the upper layer and mark the point where the under layer ends on each side. Place two more marks 1" from the first marks towards the narrow end. Add 1 1/4" seam allowance from that point around the narrower end of the board. Add 2" seam allowance round the wider end of the board. Hem the straight edge of the under layer that is next to the center dowel with a 3/8 hem. Stitch the under and upper layers together with a 3/8" seam allowance. Turn under the remaining edge (the upper layer beyond the under layer) 1/2 and make a casing about 3/8" wide. Turn right side out. Thread narrow elastic through the casing. Leave extra elastic at both ends of the casing. (This will make it easier to remove for washing.) Place the layers of wool on top of the board and slip on the sleeve cover. Use a yardstick to hold the wool in place. Tug up the elastic to make a tight fit and tie around the dowel. -- Judy Barlup Unique Techniques, Bellevue, WA email:<email address removed for privacy> http://www.uniquetechniques.com 425-885-5296 MaryW

Judy is very good. She has been on Sandra Betzina's show and I am going to have the pleasure of meeting her when she visits Halifax in May. Barry doesn't know it but he is going to make me a pant board too. MaryW
