Okay ladies I got a new sewing machine at Christmas; which I have been using but I don't like it as well as my old White sewing machine. Somethings are better; some are worse. Maybe it's just that I'm use to the old one. The new machine will embroider; but I must admit I bought it for the button hole attachment LOL. My husband will kill me if I just use it for that! But, I'm thinking of getting my White repaired (something with where the presser foot attaches is messed up). It is a dinosaur and that's the only thing wrong with it; but what a hassle to change the presser foot! I need advice on a good sewing machine for under $500, because I don't see anything wrong with having 3 sewing machines...do you? LOL I've been reading alot about Janome; is it worth the money; is it explained well in the manual, so that I don't need someone to translate what to do in order to use one function or another? I cannot decide if I want a computer compatible machine or not; seems like it might be waaaay more than I need or even want. What about just getting a serger? Those are rather scarey looking to me with 3 or 4 spools all going at the same time! what if I tangled them? Yikes! Any advice you would like to share with me will be greatly appreciated and help me make a decision! Thanks! Laura

The repair to the White sewing machine might just be a new ankle foot which should not cost too much to repair. I would buy a serger before another sewing machine. Be sure to get one with differntial feed. I got my first serger 2 years ago and was scared to death of it. However, within 6 months, I was sewing like a pro. I feel thirlled now that I can sew on a 10 thread serger which is what Santa gave me this past Christmas. Yep, that's right. I love that my clothes have a RTW seam finish and I can hem like a pro or add beautiful decorative stitching using my serger. The great feature that I like is the clean finish I have when gathering 90 inch wide skirts and attaching to the bodice in one step. I change my threads to match the fabric and have no problems with threading my serger. I just have to concentrate and take my time. However, the Babylock serger Imagine & Evolve have jet air threading that many people love. This is great for people who are challenged by all of the loopers and needles. Use the Brother machine for buttonholes and embroidery; use your White for your main sewing and enjoy a serger. I have 5 sewing machines, an embroidery only machine and a serger and I don't even have a sewing room. If your DH can buy more tools for his workshop, you should be able to buy a new sewing machine or serger if needed. At least that's my story to my DH. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.
