I am having a problem with my skirt...I made it and it's to high in the waist ... How do you ... fit that problem on a pattern... It's a pain being short waisted... Thank's inadvance.

I cannot picture in my mind how the waist of a skirt comes up too high.. I am terribly short waisted also, but when I make a skirt it just goes to my waistline and sits there.. Is your skirt maybe too snug over the high hip area or something to make it stay too high on your body ?? I am just having trouble understanding how that can happen.. When I am cutting my skirt out I always take a small horizontal fold in the pattern around the high hip area if the skirt is close fitting in that area.. If this was not done, maybe you will have to remove waistband and cut a little off the top of the skirt and then apply waistband again...Thats all I can think of.. Bren, sorry..

Sounds as if the hip measurements were off when you made your skirt causing it to ride up. Libby's suggestion of removing the waistband is one option. The other option would be to add godets in the skirt to help it skim over the hips or tummy area. I have a full tummy (like a pregnant potato) so I always have to make adjustments. Pati Palmer's book "Fit for Real People" is an excellent resource for fitting those of us with less than perfect bodies. It's a sewing room must have also. BTW, you can order it online from Wal-Mart.com. Happy Stitching!

Hi make sure that if you remove your waistband that you remeasure the waist area . Maybe make darts bigger or side seams in the same amount so you are even, front and back .. also consider that now the skirt will be shorter by whatever you raised it. The gusset idea would solve this problem,or maybe racing strips down the side or some other decoration would work for space and smoothing out. Good luck KT
