I have this great simple children's pants pattern I have been using for my daughter and friends' children. It is actually the Turkish bloomer pattern from Folkwear's 109 "Little Folks", just leaving a straight leg instead of casing and elastic at the leg. The pattern comes in a 2T and 4T size (and runs a little big). It is a very simple pattern, just two large rectangles for legs and a square gusset for the crotch with an elastic waist. My friend just had her baby boy and I want to make a pair in a 0 - 3 month size. I have no idea how long the legs should be or how large the gusset. Short of going over to her house and measuring her child, anyone have any suggestions for a *general idea* for a newborn waist / elastic / leg length / crotch run?

P.S. love this forum!

Well, using trial and error I came up with good measurements for newborn pants. I made a reversible pair (cowboy cotton print and flannel on the other) and they turned out nice. I'm posting some pictures (http://homepage.mac.com/kellyhogaboom/Sewing/PhotoAlbum6.html), not the best photos I've taken but you can get the idea.

I now have adjusted the pattern to make sizes 0 - 3 months, 18 months, and 2T... if anyone wants directions I would be happy to provide. This is a very easy pair of pants to make (takes about an hour if you have a serger to finish seams), fits over diapered bottoms very well, and looks great with all sorts of fabrics.

Hi Blackie, May I have the pattern & directions to make the children's pants in all sizes. They are adorable! If everything goes right I will be a new grand-mother the end of this year. Thanks a bunch!

Here are my directions for making reversible pants 0 - 3 month size (http://kelly.hogaboom.org/files/pants.jpg). Click on this link to download the pdf. If you have any problems email me at kelly AT hogaboom.org and I can send them to you via email.

My drawings kind of suck but I am hurrying to post while my babies nap.

Let me know how the directions work for you and I will send you dimensions for other sizes.

Hope this helps!

Kelly

Hi Blackie! Thanks for posting the newborn pants pattern! I look forward to making these cute little pants.

I'm having a baby boy in September so I'm on the hunt for cute boy stuff. I have a 3 yr old DD so I was absolutely smitten with all the cute girlie stuff out there but I am discovering there are cute boy clothes, too!

Thanks again!:bg:
