Hi! I am new to sewing and would like to purchase a pattern for a full skirt, the type that has a nice swing and drape to it! Can anybody suggest a nice pattern, with company and pattern number? Are there are "share" patterns around the web that are public domain? I wouldn't want to violate copyright laws. Can anybody suggest a good pattern source in general for petite (short) patterns? I look forward to making my own clothing, as there is so little out there in my size. Thank you for your help! Heather

Heather, my favorite skirt patterns are by Textile Studio - Loes Hinse designs - the "Skirt Trio"; "Swing Skirt"; and "Brussels Skirt" will give you the different looks that any wardrobe might need. They're quick and easy to sew with minimal seams and easy to follow instructions. Butterick, McCall's and Simplicity patterns have patterns for swing skirts. Just go to their websites. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

Dear Marty; Thank you so much for the tip! I googled Textile Studio and found the "Skirt Wardrobe" and the Brussles Skirt but not the swing skirt. I love the look of her patterns, I think right now I want to make far more than I am capable of! Warm regards, Heather

And I am wondering about the best way to do the seams. I have a linen/rayon woven blend, and know that after you stitch the seam, you need to finish the inside edges of the seam fabric. Do I do this with a zig zag stitch? or should I fold the seam edges under and sew a straight top stitch? I am not sure what the best method is. Any tips appreciated and thank you! Heather

I would suggest that you finish the seam with a zigzag stitch to help prevent fraying of the fabric or make a french seam. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.
