Hey Everyone!

I am new to sewing, and have yet to purchase a sewing machine. I am looking for a reputable dealer, not necessarily Sears, in the Boston or North Shore area.

I would like to be able to go back to the dealer if necessary with questions or if I have problems with the machine, and if they have a good fabric selection so much the better!

I did a yellow pages search but didn't find much.

Your recommendation is welcome!

Happy Spring to you,
Heather

Hi SewNew,

There are a couple places I know of in the Northshore area. One is the Singer Sewing Center in Davis Square, Somerville on Elm Street. Another is in the Woburn Mall, called Ann's Sewing center. I been to both of these and they have excellent machines as well as customer service. Below is a list of sewing centers in Mass.

Nashua Sew and Vac, they are in New Hampshire, about an hour from you, but in my opinion, well worth the drive. They have the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff Ive seen.

Thank you all!

Since I first posted in March I have found the Fabric Place and Maria's Sewing Center in Woburn.

Also in downtown Boston I have found Windsor Button, great for notions and buttons!

There is a Joanne's on Rt.1 in Saugus (I am not too impressed with their fabrics) and in downtown Boston I have found what is left of the garment district's fabric stores, namely Winmil Fabrics on Chauncy St, and there are a few others around there, but Winmil seems the best, great to hop over on my lunch break!

There is a quilt shop in Beverly if I am not mistaken, I found it while driving north on 1A.

So I have been busy, as you can see! :bg:

Thank you for letting me know about the one in Somerville, I work on the Red Line so some lunch break I might hop over there. I didn't know there was a sewing center there!

Also I have yet to go to Nashua Sew and Vac, I have seen the advertisement for them but haven't gone that far north yet. :bluesmile

I ended up buying my sewing machine on sale from Sears (I don't need the lessons as I had sewn as a child). I am happy with it.

I also purchased a second hand demo serger which is really a wonderful tool.

I have 2 skirts, one sleeveless blouse under my belt, with a button and collar short sleeved shirt on the way, and a tank shell to go with it. And now my boyfriend wants a Renaissance period shirt. : -) What fun!!

And thank you to everyone on this board, for answering all my questions, this board has become a valuable resource.
