I am about to purchase my first machine embroidery machine. I am an active handwork person, lots of smocking, needlework and sewing. Finally the DH says lets get you a nice used first machine. yeaaahhhhhh!!! (I think he is wanting me to be able do some hats and stuff for him to use at work for promotional stuff..LOL)

Looks like the janome MC 8000 is what I am leaning towards. The price range is right for a budget. There is one at a local store and one on ebay currently. One has a scan n sew with it. I drool for the 10000 but ...well.... babysteps.

So can I ask someone some really stupid questions?

Are the disks like regular floppies? I see people advertising designs on a cd in janome format. How do you use them on a 8000 or can you even use it on an 8000?

Is there any hat attachment you can use on this machine? I saw one but it is for the 9000.

Any advice for me here? I know I will fly with it once I get it but really need guidence.

Thanks!

Hi Wendy, welcome to Sew Whats New. :bluesmile

I think I am one of the few people left on earth that don't own an embroidery machine. Many of the girls here can tell you about theirs and have fun whatever you decide.

Hi Wendy and welcome.
I'm with Mary.. I do not have embroidery machine, but I do have a Janome MC 4000. (computerized sewing machine) that I will tell you is a great, fantastic, wonderful sewing machine..Dependable, sturdy always reliable. I do not think you can go wrong with one...I would love to have an embroidery machine, but I think it would be foolish to buy one at my age.. Besides, I've got enough gray hair already, just learning abt the internet.. I have used a computer for years at work, but this is different, since I retired..
You cannot go wrong with a Janome..:bg: :bg:

www.janome.com

will tell you all kinds of stuff about all the Janome machines...
I have a 10000, and a Compulock serger...
I have some of the 8000 designs for my 10000, they came on a CD...
I think the 8000 uses cards, they fit into a slot on the right side of the machine, theres 100's of cards for the 8000..it uses a 'sew' format (as does the 9000....10000's use a 'jef' format)
Once you've gotten one Janome, it's hard not to buy/want all the others....( I know I want a 300E (embroidery only) and a 6500 (quilter)...::heavy sigh:: where is that lottery when you want something !?!?!?!?!

I know that Hoop-it-All hoops makes hat hoops for LOTS of machines and they have some for Janomes...
www.hoopitall.com
I think Janome came out with a hat hoop, but I don't know if it's for the 8000..the site should tell you....
