Hi there,

I'm new here and I've tried to add this thread many times and it never shows up. Trying again. Anyway, I'm new to sewing. Trying to teach myself. I just finished making four, 48"x60" roman shades for my living room. That was a mess, but they're done now and look pretty good. But my windows still look naked, so I bought a pretty pattern for valances. It's a Butterick and says "easy to do reversible valances" lol.....we'll see. My problem is that I can't find anywhere in the instructions how to measure my windows to find the amount of material I'll need to make a valance. Can someone help me?
Thanks for your time,
Carol

A lot of these patterns have the amounts on the instruction sheets inside rather than the envelope.

Hi Pam,
I'm so sorry it took me so long to post this. This program kept telling me to login, so I would and it still wouldn't let me post anything. I gave up a couple hours ago and just tried again and now it's letting me post!
My pattern # is M4330 and I want to make Item (B). I think the material just just supposed to be the width I want my window rods, which I don't know that either. My windows measure 47 on the inside width. Thanks for any help you can give.

If your pattern is McCall's 4330, it says that you need 7/8 of a yard of 44", 52", or 60" fabric for view B for both the main valance and the reversible color. I found that information on the back of the pattern envelope. If you want your valance to be wider than the inside measurement of your window, you have to take a measurement of the area you want the valance to cover but first you have to determine what kind of rod or mount the pattern says can be used for that valance.

Hi Patsy
Thank you so much for that info, but I'm sitting here looking at my pattern envelope and the only things on the back of it are drawings of A, B, C, and D choices for the pattern and this statement under the heading "Window Essentials" Easy-to-do reversible valances and cafe' curtains make adding new life to any decor a breeze. That same statement is in two other languages and that's it for the back of my pattern envelope besides trademarks and addresses, etc. I am wondering if I got some sort of defective envelope! lol.

Anyway, thank you so much. I'm going to write your yardage info on the back of my envelope right now!
Thanks again, Carol

Carolanna7, welcome to Sew Whats New. :bluesmile

I'm sorry it has been difficult to sign on the boards, sometimes they are ornery. :nc:

Hi, Carol. Maybe your pattern envelope was from a different printing? Anyway, you should be able to view almost any patterns that are current (front and back of the envelope) on Sewingpatterns.com There may be other sites also, but this one works for checking out that information. Pam

Carolana here's the link to the McCall's pattern #4330. If you scroll down, you'll see all of the yardage info, etc. Is this same pattern you have?
