This lady could use our help, please respond if you can help. Thanks. Dear Mary, I found your page re:Starting Your Own Sewing Business; Taking the Pludge very informative. Boy do I have a lot of questions. I am a mother of 2 and have been sewing since I was 6. (That's admittedly has been quite a few years ago) I seem to always under-price my work. I have done some wonderful projects, I just never seemed to charge the right amount. Can you help? I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give. Respectfully Therese MaryW

On several websites, I have posted $20 per pattern piece and that seems to be a reasonable price for sewing. I did have a consultation / fitting fee plus additional fees for shopping and embellishments. I only marketed my skills and required that the customer provide the pattern and fabric. I provided the notions as I wanted only certain brands of thread, stabilizers, etc with my equipment. I'm finicky in that respect. Several good books may be found at your local library include "Sew to Success", "The Business of Sewing", "Pricing Without Fear" and "Marketing Your Sewing Business". I think each book has valuable information to share with those operating a home sewing business. I've closed my business for health reasons at present. Hope this helps. Happy Stitching!
