Hi, I'm a beginner sewer and I'm wondering is interfacing is an absolute necessity. Is it possible to make a waistband without it, or would it completely throw everything off? In addition, are there any alternatives you have found? Thank you! -- Eva |

Don't ever short cut the interfacing. It really makes a difference in the garment, the way it looks at the neck, the way that it hangs from the waist, etc. There is an alternative type of waist-type interfacing. It is sold in the notions department (usually on the wall of a fabric store). It comes in packages and irons into your garment. It is perforated at the top where the waistband folds. There would be instructions for application in the package. I don't know that it is particularly any better than any other. Some people prefer it. Ideally, you should just make it a habit to have a few yards of interfacing on hand all the time...never know when it will come in handy. I usually keep several weights in the drawer. pam
