Anyone out there make doll patterns, or want to share other doll patterns? (especially out-of-print ones). I am a Cloth Doll Maker -I especially like older, vintage patterns. How about you?

I'm just new to making soft dolls so I pretty much have to wing it and the only patterns I have are Barbi ones and general doll clothes, like 16" dolls, etc. Open for any suggestions though.

I have been browsing through the doll patterns on Ebay--there are a LoT*! Many are vintage that have been "copied" so that they can be shared with many people for a reasonable price. I have purchased a couple of them (both under $5). They are available for bidding, or for the "buy It Now" thing. I also just bought one on Bidville. (another good source)...but I am looking for historic patterns/ and a little more unusual, and they don't have to be "complicated". > I guess I'll just know it (them) when I see it (or them*), but it takes a lot of L@@king. == I am trying to get "professional" at making cloth dolls...with my own syle incorporated into them. It takes time & patience. == Right now I am looking for an interesting pattern for a *FLaPPer DoLLy* (from the 1920's) to enter a DoLL Challenge coming up. I have only seen 2-pc. patterns on Ebay (1 front, 1 back) and I am trying to "dream up" a combination of several patterns that might work. Guess I'll just make a "skinny" cloth doll, and keep looking for ideas for a flapper dress for her. !! == I am interested in chatting about old doll patterns members run across, tho ,on this board. I am willing to purchase, but it might be more fun to just SWaP* copies*! Either way, I will post from time to time*! ~Annie

Annie, (sp)
My Mom was born in 1914, so she grew up in the flapper era, and my Grandmother made all their clothes..My Mom loved to do 'the Charleston' (she did it till she was in her eighties) and she always loved the flapper dresses.. Her favorite pattern was a sleeveless, dropped waist dress, with rows of narrow gathered lace on the top, then the band at the high hip line and then rows of beading on the skirt.. Mom didn't like it if it didn't have movement...I believe you could make your own pattern like that with no trouble at all..You could make the bead trip with those seed beeds for a doll's dress, with no trouble.. I still have a seed bead necklace a Blind lady made for my Grandmother. Opera style. Its black and clear beads.. Mom loved to wear it with her flapper dresses..Opera style is long, just barely hooked together at the breastline and then on down with loopy bangles on each side that end below the breast and above the waist..

Hmmm ---maybe I "could" just make one--you know, youve indirectly reminded me that I saved a costume site somewhere in my folders..last year sometime..... by describing your Mom's dress to me..! I am wondering when you talk about beading "in rows" for a flapper dress--do you mean rows horizontally (around) or rows going down to the hemline (vertical)? Otherwise, I know what you mean by the drop waisted, or high-hip band --also know about "flapper beads"!
That "opera" stye sounds gorgeous. I bet you are glad you still have them!! How nice*!

Mom and her younger sister were slim, So Grandmother always made the horizontal rows on their dresses... If it were me, she would have made them vertical..I have always been short and wide...So glad I triggered a memory for you.. That is why I love this site.. Someone is always reminding me of a good idea , and then, of course, I learn something new almost every day on here also..
