There is a small iron called the "Clover Mini Iron" I believe it is triangular shaped. I don't have one but have heard good things about it from others. They seem to run about $20 on average.

Here is a link to one place selling them (NAYY) I am sure there are others but that is the first one I thought of.

The Clover Mini Iron is perfect for applique and small areas. It gets very, very hot. Please be careful. It has no steam.

I have one of the Clover mini irons and I just love it. I'ts a must for doing small applique pieces and for doing the bias strips on the stained glass quilts. It does get very, very hot so be careful. I use my stelelo (sp?) to hold the pieces so I don't burn my fingers.

The only think I didn't like was the holder that came with it. It's very flimsy and falls over and of course takes the iron with it. I burned a huge hole in one of my rulers one day. So, I cut a 6" circle of wood - about 1" thick - and glued their holder to it. Much better. Of course, I pained the circle and painted roses on it first but that's an option.

Violet*! From Ontario? What a greAt idea -- Thanks to Both ideas that I got. ~!!!!~ I already went to the Wilde Ideas website and subscribed. That is where the Mini-iron is available, correct? I hope they take M.O.'s....I have seen one of those irons here locally in a fabric store //they want $35.00 for it! Don't know if I will order online, or if I will try to call a couple of Hardware stores also first. Anyone have any comments about Wilde Ideas, the site? It looks interesting / I haven't really surfed it yet. THANKS Again from this newbie lady~*! Annie

Another type of iron that is totally different and pretty cool is a puff iron. It clamps on your table or ironing board and is more or less egg shaped. You don't move the iron, but move your fabric over it. It might not be quite as good for your type of application, but is really nice for small places including sleeves and heirloom sewing. It also does not deliver steam but as with the clover you could use a slightly damp pressing cloth with it. There is another small iron a little larger than my clover that the Bernina dealer was using the other night...don't know the brand or anything but it was about 2 and a half or three inches long in the base, someone else might have heard of it. The base on that iron was a little stronger than the clover.

coloradoanni you can buy the Clover Mini Iron at JoAnn Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics. They run about $29.95 (somewhere in that neighborhood give or take $5.00).

Love my clover iron. Got mine from Jo Ann's with a 50% coupon so a good deal. Yes they get really hot on high. Some put the end of the iron in a coffee mug & that works great. My dh made me a nice wooden stand for mine & it holds it very secure but handy. You can also order a stand from Clotilde or Nancy's notions but I think they are over priced. But then dh can make things I want so I'm blessed. Theresa

Thanks for all of your input*! Wow! I guess the Clover iron is thee most popular... I haven't ever seen a Puff Iron --sounds like it could work well, tho. ***haHa -- am just thinking of a "puff of steam" also-- maybe I could use an old-fashioned tea kettle ("steam kettle" also > like people used in the old days when they had a cold or a cough~)! Unfortunately I am not working close enough to a stove when working on my pieces, for use of a "tea kettle" --although I'm sure many quilters have, and still do*! If I'm at home, I do sometimes work/sew in the kitchen because the light is good! But my rented studio does not have a kitchen or a stove --it's just a tiny room on the second floor of a historic old brick building in the Old Colorado City district. (I love it) *!!*

I recently bought a Rowenta that is about four inches from the point to the base. It has steam like a large iron.
I got it at Best Buy for $40 when my washing machine died and I needed to replace it fast. My husband and the sales guy thought I was crazy when I said "I'm going to buy myself a new toy."
It's marketed as a travel iron.
I've pretty much used it exclusively since I got it.
It reaches a lot of small places but I don't think it would replace a tiny clover -- which I think I will get with my JoAnne's 50% coupon this week.

The best idea I have heard of for the mini iron is a ceramic tile with the stand glued to it. Better than wood I think and it can't catch on fire.

Dorothy, your iron sounds perfect for those hard to reach areas like sleeves, etc.

YiKes*!* That's TWiCe that people mentioned a 50% off coupon from Jo Ann's -I was there 2 times last week --I don't think I have a coupon--??? Is it mailed? And I didn't look for an iron; I was in there quickly both times and grabbed some old-fashioned looking fat quarters for $1 a piece --got several, then went back next day for more.. (for pioneer dollys*). Have I missed out on those coupons?? Hmmm....GoSh*!*:nc:

Until a few months ago here in our area we always got 50% coupons with our mailer from Jo Ann's. I bought my clover iron during that time. My SIL in Omaha was only getting the 40% coupons even then. That's what ours are now also. Once in awhile we'll still get a 50% either over the net or with a mailer. That's rare though. Do get on the mailer list as then you can have sometimes 2 coupons to use for that month on regular price items. They sure save on bigger ticket items. Theresa

I get the 50% off coupons so often that I have one almost all the time. They come on the back of the regular mailer. I just signed up for them at the store.

Hi Dorothy, It just depends what state your in as to the amount of the coupon. I've been told that they are slowly changeing all to 40% at some point. As I said mine was 50% on the mailers for years & Omaha was 40% but now ours has went to 40%. Enjoy while you can as you have no warning on the change. Guess it isn't too bad since we do get extras from the net as well. Guess I just got spoiled. LOL. Theresa

Now now there! There are round potato mashers and my mother had one that looked like a club. Believe it or not, some people who are old fashioned enough to peal potatos (yeah, that's something done with a potato, a knife or a potato pealer...they really make those things), even use a ELECTRIC mixer....scary!!!!

I still have a tater ( that's POTATOE to you yankees ) masher, most likely a couple. I peel my taters thin with a knife like Mama taught me but use a mixer to mash them. None of us like those instant things from a box that looks more like wallpaper paste when done. Yep, I'm 60 but even my youngest dd mashes her own taters. Home made gravy too. All joking aside, I did hear about the potatoe masher being used for the clover iron rest. When we need something we always seem to find a way to make it work. Everyone have a nice day or evening, where ever you are. Theresa

I have the Clover iron and use it a lot. I have a 9x9 tile I lay on my ironing board at the back and I put the iron on it when it is hot. It is really a useful little thing. Good for pressing narrow ribbons and trims and all sorts of things. I bought mine at JoAnne's on sale. Marilynntx
