My mom wants me to make her a jacket like this one.

She knows I can make it cheaper. I know I can but I can't seem to find a similar pattern. She wants the no buttons and 3/4 lenght sleeve in the white eyelet. Thanks, Jolene

Cute jacket Jolene. Let me know if you find one like it. McCall's has some like that but I don't know if they have the bottom edge the same as the one in the pic.

If the cost is the only issue I doubt you are going to make it a lot cheaper than $30 bucks -- I mean if you consider the time and all. But it does look like an interesting project. Finding a pattern shouldn't be too difficult. Let us know how you deal with the collar/lapel and interfacing.

The pattern looks like a basic cardigan style banded jacket made out of eyelet fabric with batiste lining. It appears to have a collarless front so it shouldn't be hard to duplicate. Good luck!
Happy Stitching!

I have been told on the other boards I go to that they don't think I can make it for less than $30.00. I wondered about the lapel, collar, interfacing myself. Since I have been dealing with interfacing issues on some of my recent projects, that was right up front there in my mind. She told me I could make it for her for mother's day. I will decide here over the next few days if I may be better off just ordering this one. Heaven knows I am up to my eyebrows with other projects to do!

The one good thing that came out of this is as I was scouring patterns last night, I found some more I like for me!:bg:

A quick look at sewingpatterns.com turned up Butterick 6718, a shawl collar jacket with set in sleeve. Eliminating the button is easy, easier than putting it in.

Now your task is finding eyelet fabric, which is not cheap. Add lining fabric and the price for that jacket looks very good.

So a lining fabric is how they do that. Then is there interfacing in something like that? This may be more than I want to tackle yet having not done this before with what sounds to be a fairly expensive material.

That's why I love these boards. I get steered in the direction I need to go and you give something to think about. This may be a real easy decision. I bet all I have been seeing in Hancocks, or JoAnn's is not the type of eyelet I need. It is the thinner cotton that is going to winkle real easy.

Thanks for the insight everyone.

It is a really cute jacket! It is lightly gathered onto a band I think...looks like it is about as wide as a hem..a couple of inches maybe? If you look toward the side, you can see a slight gather...at first I thought that it was only a hem (which would show like that). I don't know that interfacing would be such a problem I think that just about any light weight interfacing would work, but I don't think think that it is lined. It looks totally unlined to me.. It looks like the pockets might be a little bit gathered at the bottom. I think that you could find the basic pattern just about any place, make sure that it comes down over the hips, shorten it or lengthen it, add about a two inch band at the bottom and lightly gather the jacket onto the band. You'd have to probably shorten the sleeves of the jacket to make it work, but on the other hand, 3/4 is in this year. My guess is that it would take 2 1/2- 3 yards of fabric that would cost anywhere from 5.99-7.99 a yard....add the price of your fabric, and if the jacket in the picture is any good at all, you have about 30 plus time.
