I have some pink polyester fabric that my GD picked out that she wants me to make something out of for her. It does not have a big amount of stretch but a little. I was thinking maybe a skirt or something but I don't think I have found a pattern yet that will work with that kind of material. Most of the patterns I have looked at are for the cottons and I am not sure that is the right match of fabric and pattern. She is a child size 5 for the most part. Does anyone have any ideas? She just loves going to fabric stores and so one day a while back I let her pick out some material and this is what she wanted. I am cutting out about 6 outfits to start sewing this week but the more I got to thinking about the pattern http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/mccallspatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.400004494=x&TI='4494'&pageNum=1&M=&UK=32811087 On this skirt I was going to see if the 6 would work because that is the size this pattern is. I may have to rethink this one. I have 1 yard of 60in material. Thanks, Jolene Jolene

I've used fabric with a little lycra and even knits with a only a little stretch on patterns for regular woven fabrics. It works, just so long as it isn't to stretchy. I'd go ahead and try that skirt. Dorothy |

I have also had Kwik Sew 2823 http://www.kwiksew.com/Cold_Fusion/catalog/Frame_New.cfm suggested to me. I am wondering if this might not be a better choice? There is some stretch crosswise and none lenghtwise. Jolene

The real difference between the two skirts you're considering is how full they are. If your fabric is thin and drapey the fuller skirt would work better. If it is a bit thicker and has more body the simple A-line is better. I don't think the stretch will be a problem. |

Thank-you, this is thin, drapey fabric. So it sounds the McCalls pattern is better then.
