I have quite a casual living room with two windows about halfway up one wall and a large sliding door leading out to our backyard. What I am wondering is are Roman Blinds a no-no in the living room? Sherri My website

Not at all! They're a yes in any room. Some people don't like the cords and rings showing in a front window facing the street, but if it doesn't bother you, then do what you like! Becky |

I think they'd be great. I've always wanted to make them, but I didn't want to do the mounting board thing. I just found a pattern where the Roman shade is on a curtain rod with tabs at the top of the shade. I might put them in one of the bedrooms.

Kim -- I made a Roman blind that goes on a rod. It looks really good. It is on a very large rod. Dorothy |

I thought a heavier rod would be nice...I think I'll plan on those eventually for my spare bedroom. Thanks Dorothy! Aren't those quilted blinds gorgeous! LOL...my maiden name too. =^..^= Kim

Sherri, I have Simplicity #0657 which is a Sewing for Dummies pattern, believe it or not. But there is a view with a Roman shade using a curtain rod rather than making a mounting board to screw into the inside of the window frame. I'm definitely planning on this for the spare bedroom...but the living/dining room and kitchen have to be first!

I just bought a pattern for my first Roman Blind. They look so simple, but when I started reading the directions, I got real confused. Mine will be made from a stripe fabric--almost like an awning stripes. Its stiff and must roll up in pleats. These are for my kitchen and the fabric was pricey, so I don't want to mess up. Are there any good lessons out there on the web on this whole mounting board thing?

Shellymoon here is a site that if you put in the measurements of your window(s), they will prepare a free pattern specifically for your window based on the measurements you give htem. They have free step by step instructions on how to make, assemble and mount different types of roman shades. www.shadescapes2.com They also give an e-mail address where you can ask any questions you have in making your shade(s).
