So I did it again. There is a company near here that makes and markets a line of clothing to somewhat pricey boutiques. Every year they have a huge sale with items that sell for $50 an up priced at $5 to $30. Women flock to the area, so much so that the web sites has information on lodging and has maps from all the cities in the Northeast. I'd never gone but this year my daughter took me with her. The clothes are great. All natural fibers and simple designs. The company is called FLAX so, as you can guess, most of the stuff is linen. I haven't bought any ready to wear in a couple years but I was up for this. I took $100 out of the bank just in case. So we get there and it is in a huge old department store. The clothes are all in cardboard boxes scattered under signs that say TOPs, BOTTOMS, DRESSES -- well you get the picture. Women are frantically digging through the boxes in various stages of undress, not even bothering to go to the dressing room. They are filling shopping carts and dragging two or three huge linen shopping bags behind them. Looks like fun. Then I see it. In the way-back a smaller sign that says -- You guessed it -- FABRIC!!! It's the leftover from the spring season. The same thing the ready to wear is made from. Linen for $3 a yard, rayon for $4 a yard and cotton for $5 a yard. So, yeah, I spent most of my $100, filled my huge shopping bag, left smiling and kept my record of not buying ready to wear for two years. My daughter left with three or four dresses and several shirts, shaking her head at me. But you should see these colors and the rayon prints are fantastic. I just had to tell someone that would understand. Dorothy |

How exciting for you! That would be almost as good as finding out the dirty, black rock you were holding in your hand was actually gold. This actually happened to a friend of mine. I also love it when you buy something at Goodwill or some super dicount store, only to get it home and find out it matches perfectly with a pair of pants or a blouse, scarf, etc., you already had in your closet. That is such a great feeling! |
