I'm making a dress (Vogue 2429, it's so awesome!) and I don't really like the way the shoulder straps came out, I think I'd rather leave it strapless. Here's my problem: I have a very small bust, and I made the dress to fit me with a 'helpful' bra, so I need the dress to have straps to cover the bra straps. What if I built a bra into the dress? Does anyone have experience with this? I think I'd rather spend the time and money learning to sew a dress with built in support than drop a lot of money on a strapless bra. What do you think? |

Why not, they do it with swimwear all the time. ![]() MaryW

Sewing a built in bra is not that hard as Hancock Fabrics carries the bras according to cup size and instructions. I just bought a couple of bras yesterday with some underwires for support for DD's summerwear. I would suggest that you use boning across the top of the bodice to add stability and to prevent a "slip of the fabric". One just zigzags it to the underlining or sandwich it between the lining and bodice fabric. Hope this helps. Happy Stitching! Marty ![]() It takes one moment to change a life.

Thank you both. I'm still a bit timid about trying this, but I'll consider it. Sometimes when I'm not sure how to proceed, I'll go out to the mall and examine how ready-to-wear garments are made. |

Now, that's a good idea. I bet you will find however the factories sew in bras will be not as nice a job as what you will do. ![]() MaryW
