Hello all, Just wondered if anyone has any ideas. My friend has just given me a selection of wonderfully coloured neck scarves because she has changeed profession from a high flying banker to a teacher of english. To her, they are no use but such beautiful scarves should not go to waste. I have given some away to other teachers but want to know if I can make something interesting from them. I have approximately 10 - and no two scarves are the same. I dont have to use them in the same project - and dont mind cutting into them! Ps Just to let you know - am not a quilter (but full respect to all quilters out there) any ideas ? val Always beready to be inspired

Val, I am a very fond lover of silk scarves. I have used many to make wonderful doll design clothing, and also special little purses as gifts for others. I make the the size of a travel kleenex tissue box and line it fully. Sometimes I put piping on the pedged, and sometimes not. I made a flap that goes over and closes with a frog. My favorite way is still for the doll clothing. They sew up so quickly, and make some outstanding designs. warmly, Debi Hoggan, Utah ***See Our New Picture Trail web site!***

Just an idea but you could make some lovely pillows from them or tie a bow around a pillow with it. Or.... You could use them over a lamp for pretty subtle lighting. Use them as a curtain tieback. Line a basket. Twist around a basket handle. Tie it around a hat. Tie it in a silk floral arrangement Use it as a background in a frame and place your fav pic in the center. Hope I've given you some inspiration. Dorina |

Thanks ladies i have really been inspired by these ideas - SchätzliDesigns the silk purse is a useful idea especially for evening wear. What would be the best fabric to line it with as it is such a delicate fabric? and dvanguilder thanks for all of these ideas, the most confusing was the floral arrangement. do you suggest creating roses to fix onto clothing to act like a broche? If so have you made one before and could you share this or know where i can find this design, if you do not mean a broche please what this involves thanks val Always beready to be inspired

I'd probably put a few together and line a garment. Or how about lapels and collars. Dorothy |

Hi! Glad you liked the ideas. What I meant with the floral arrangement was you could simply tie the scarf around a nice bouquet or, my fav, is to use them in a floral swag over a door or picture. . .using the scarf to make a unique and pretty bow. Another idea, from my skinny days, is to use scarves as a belt. =) Dorina |

When I have made my silk purses, I have lined them either with the same material, or a solid piece of silk or linen. It is only two pieces of material. Decide on your size that you want for the finished product. Make it the width you want, then the length, that you will befolding three times. The side, the opposite side, and the pointed flap end. Example: ________________ | \ |______|____|_____/ Does that make sense? The measurements I often use is 13" in length and 7½" in width. Put wrong sides together and stitch, leaving a 1" opening to turn. (I have even padded these.) Turn with right sides out. Fold three times and stitch 1" opening closed. Stitch up side edges. Attach a frog or make a look at the point and attach either a snap, or button to finish off. I have also added piping, lace, decorative stitches, etc aroudn the edges to give it a more finished look. I have sold these for $15 a piece at many craft fairs. I hope this will help someone. Warmly, Debi Hoggan, Utah ***See Our New Picture Trail web site!***

hello, SchätzliDesigns, thank you for the explaination of the purse -, it does make sense and sounds too easy! - i will give it a go Dorothy , the collar and lapel idea is fun. You remind me of a white tailored shirt i saw that had the contrast fabric on the collar stand and the inside of the turned up cuffs. It looked so fresh. Thanks for all these Great ideas val Always beready to be inspired
