Here we will ask questions about the new spring jacket lessons given here on the site. Please post questions and suggestions here. I can't find your questions or help you if they are posted all over the forums. ![]() MaryW

I am a plus sized user wanting to take this class. I have found a pattern that I think is very much like the pattern you have chosen. My question, don't I need a heavier interfacing for this than say a blouse? The pattern doesn't say. Thanks Mary T aka cat crazy

Hi Marmew, glad to see you finally made it on the boards. ![]() Your interfacing weight should match your jacket fabric weight. Nothing heavier. It is going to support your fabric and give your jacket some shape along the neck edge MaryW

For those of you making a shorter jacket, remember to make the adjustments to your front facings as well as the front and backs of your jacket!

I am using a blue and white floral denim for the jacket. I would also like to use some decorator fabric to make this jacket at a later date. How should I treat that fabric before cutting out the jacket -- wash, dry clean? By the way, I am new to the group and look forward to learning new things. You seem like a friendly group ![]() Patti |

Hi Patti, and welcome to Sew Whats New. ![]() Home dec. fabric is tricky sometimes. What is the fiber content? I am washing some 100% cotton home dec. as we type for a duvet cover but it is lightweight. I anticipate throwing it in the washer at summer's end again, or the first time my grandson spills something on it. MaryW

Thanks for your reply and welcome. The decorator fabric content is 100% cotton. Perhaps testing a small square cut from the fabric would be the way to go. That would give me a clue as to what might happen if I wash the yardage. I would like to be able to launder the jacket myself. Meanwhile, I will make the jacket from my denim first. This will be fun -- just like a sewing bee!! Patti |

Cut a 3" or so square. Trace around it on a piece of paper. After washing and drying, place it back on the square to see how it shrunk. Thanks Patti, a sewing bee is what I had in mind. ![]() MaryW

Hey everyone. Here are the first few steps in making your jacket. Read them carefully and if you have any questions, ask away. http://sew-whats-new.com/projects/jacket I'll have the next part in a week. MaryW

Hi Everyone, This is the first time I have posted. I was just looking at all the neat projects to make and saw the Jacket one. I wanted to see what it looked like so I went to the recommended site at sewingpatterns.com. I couldn't find where you see the pattern numbers. I clicked on several jackets but none were the right one. I even used the search ingine to put the number in but came up 0. Is there a trick to finding the patterns by number? TIA |

If it isn't there, it has gone off of their list. Go to your local fabric store that carries patterns.

Good, I hope you learned something along the way. Next is a lined vest if you would like to try that.
