i recently constructed my first ever polarfleece vest. i love the look and am quite proud of it, but there is one major problem with the fit....it is too baggy in the back for my taste. surely there is a way to "slim" the vest up without having to make an entirely new garment. can someone please give me some advice on making this thing fit a bit more snugly in the back?? AND is there something i can do to the pattern to avoid this problem on the next vest?? thanks for your help. i love this site. |

Will the design support some darts down from each of the shoulder blades?

When I made a couple of polar fleece vests this past winter, they seemed to look baggy at the waistline. I added a darts in the middle of the back or you can add princess seams with a decorative stitch (tried both methods). Realized that I was stretching the fabric when I was sewing and it had become distorted. The 3rd vest, I sewed with water soluable stabilizer on the seams and hem. That seemed to do the trick. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

Depending on where it is baggy, you could also stitch a piece of elastic on the inside middle of the back, going horizontally along the waistline. I saw this in a vest magazine in the library and it looks very neat (you can make a casing or just stretch wide elastic and zig-zag over the edges). Figure out something that looks good from the outside. |
