What is everyone going to make for Father's Day? If you are lucky enough to have your Dad around, be sure to give him a hug!

In memory of my beloved Dad...
If you have young children, have them make this for Dad... He will love it..
Take a cardboard tube from paper towels.. Glue a decorative piece of paper (giftwrap, or other) to the tube.. Take a yard of decorative cord, or ribbon, insert thru tube, and tie in a secure knot with a bow for looks (if desired) .. Hang on any nail , knob, or even tie around closet rod.. Voila ! ! They have made Dad a Tie Rack he will treasure forever.. Hint... A scrap of fabric is even better, it will grip the tie more firmly..

I'm making him this insulated lunch sack (http://sewing.about.com/library/weekly/aa072100a.htm)... (made one for my husband last week, it turned out pretty good). And I'm going to cheer him on in a race down in Long Beach that weekend (he's a long-distance runner).

So I have a question... For those of you married with kids, do you get your husband something for Father's Day too? Our kids are too young (2 and 6 weeks) to get anything for my husband, so it is up to me if anyone's going to do it. Suggestions?

As soon as we (finally after 11 years and tons of miscarriages) had kids, we started celebrating Father's and Mother's Day. For my first Mother's day, he bought me a diamond ring! Over the years it has gotten a little less spectacular (who can keep up at that pace). This year I bought him a set of pretty cool regulation weight horse shoes in a case....bought one for his dad too....we love to entertain outside during the summer. Last year I bought him a hammock.

Blackie, when the kids were small, I always did something. :bluesmile

He should have some acknowledgement as well.

Blackie,
Applique their hand prints on a plain white t-shirt and write # 1 Dad or World's Best Dad or something.. He will be so proud.. It doesn't have to cost much..Just an acknowledgement of his fatherhood..:bg:

My grown kids are having such a hard time making ends meet lately that I went out and bought him a tool box for his new little truck he just got last month. IT's so cute. So it's from all of us.

My kids, 17 and 22, are going to a local used-CD store and buying an assortment of CDs for Dad to use during his commute. All his favorite stuff: Beatles, Steve Miller Band, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, etc. They already have a card.

This year, I did something interesting for Mother's Day. I told hubby, if you don't take our son out and get me something for MD, I am going to REALLY be pissed off at both of you. It worked. I guess I should've done that years ago. My bday is 2 weeks after, and he actually remembered it this year (2nd time in 23 years).

Dear daughter never forgets.

I always get my hubby something for Fathers Day, the kids are old enough to do their own thing ( 20 and 17) but I still have to remind them - a lot! Nprmally a CD or DVD. I bought him 'Interview with a Vampire' - stylish 'eh?

My fondest memory of Fathers Day is when I was taking my foster son to buy a Fathers Day card for his Dad, and one for Uncle Tony. We had had a long conversation the day previous that men and women were different and the reason I didn't have a willy was not because I had pulled it off but rather ladies didn't grow then in the first place. Anyway, in the stationers Pete announces in a loud voice, "we're going to buy a Fathers Day card for my Dad 'cos he's got a willy! and we can get one for Uncle Tony cos he's got a willy - you can't have one though because..." yes you guessed it..............
The man at the counter was much amused when Pete confided in him once more about the Real Reason behind Father's Day!

How old is Pete now? Bet he'll be embarrassed!
I bought my dad a dvd of "Laurel and Hardy". No matter how many times he watches these he still finds them really funny - and "Dad's Army" is another favourite. My son was 21 yesterday so we are going up to Liverpool tomorrow for a family barbecue to celebrate, so I will be able to give him his present then. Looking at the change in the weather it may become an indoor barbecue....
Diane :)
