i bought a wrap skirt at a ethnic shop 2 summers ago and i absolutly loooooved it, until the thin material got a tear in it that i couldnt repair, it kept fraying. so i got some material the other day and i plan on making a few, but i have one problem. i dont know how to fasten it. i still have the old torn one to use as a pattern but i cant find it. i looked for a pattern online and found a how-to on it, but i dont like the way it fastens. mine had a tie that somehow looped through the waisteband. anyone have any ideas? i really dont want to use velcro or buttons. |

Are you thinking of the kind that has almost a large rectangular piece of material with a tie at each top corner? A bit like an oversized apron? If so you simply need to wrap it round your body and work out where the overlap would comfortably be and mark that place on the waistband. Then you will need to make something like a large buttonhole for the tie to go through at that point in the waistband and you should be able to do it up. It is comforting as well to put a button and buttonhole on the inside of the band as well in case your bows come undone. I'm sure there must be better instruction than mine on this site! Have you tried a search? love and kisses, Jan

The wrap part that is underneath has a tie attached to the end of it.. This tie will be inserted thru a buttonhole you make in the waist of the skirt on the side nearest the underlay.. The overlay has the other tie attached to it, and when you put the skirt on , you bring the one out from underneath via the buttonhole and take it on around your back and meet with the tie from other end and tie them..Thats all ..to clarify.. look in mirror, one tie comes out from underneath on one side of your skirt, the other tie is attached to the end that goes to your other side (all the way across your front) The 2 ties should meet in the middle of your back and tie..

I thought they were supposed to meet at one side.

Some tie in the front, some in the back, some on the side. You tie the ends where the "strings" are the same length. Most that I have used though wrap across the front and tie on the side or off to the front side. Some have darts and you can tell by the darts where they should tie. If there are two sets of darts, the long go in back, the shorter in front. If they are very short and deep, they go to the side.

I guess I'm showing my age again.. The wrap skirts we used to make always had a complete wrap always across the skirt front.. So that the wind did not embarass you .. therefore the strings came from each side and went to the back to tie..We never made the wraps with a small area of overlap, because we did not trust them..to stay shut...
