Hi,

My daughter has just done renovations to her home and she had a bow window installed. She was asking me for ideas for curtains or some kind of window decor that she could use. I would like to know if anyone could help me with these ideas. Thanks.

When I put in my bay window, I had trouble finding rods that were not custom or extremely expensive. If her bow window is like most, it is straight windows, not curved glass like the true victorian windows, so it will make the rod problem not as hard as curved glass. I used a regular curtain rod, measured each window, allowed for space away from the wall and bent the rod gently over a table ledge to get my rods (cheap). At the corner of each window I bought a special hook available at the hardware store...it may be available in the window dressing area of a Wal Mart, or Target. It is all one piece...at one end it is a wood screw, at the other end it is a hook to hold your curtain rod...inbetween there is about 2-21/2 inches of straight bar. I put one of these in each bend of my window to reinforce and hold my curtain rod and then I put sheers with large, heavy lace inserts on the rods...it was very pretty. I often considered putting in white shutters on those windows though, thourht they would be beautiftul. My windows were bumped out from the room and I had a short wall on all three sides of the window. I also considered putting a walance across the top of the bump-out with drapes to draw straight across, just to frame the window....I never did, I really liked the open sheer curtains and the airy feeling it added to the room. I had blinds on each window.
