Well, it took some time but I think I have just crossed the line and am ready to start spending more on my patterns. I posted a few days ago about how much I liked my first Kwik Sew pattern and the fit was so good. I am reading a lot about Jalie 2005 T shirt pattern. I wear a lot of T shirts but I don't want a real snug fitting T shirt. I am normal through my bustline but widen out toward my waist and hips. So I don't like real form fitting patterns on this 46 year old body. I keep reading how good this pattern is but everyone talks about the snug fit. Are there other good alternatives to this that are still going to get me a good fit? I am also looking for a good capri pants pattern and I do prefer a loose elastic or drawstring waist because of other issues. Any suggestions? Many of you have been saying to try these other pattern companies and I guess I just had a problem when I was first learning to want to spend that money. But if I can get the good fit and be able to use it over and over, it will be worth it. Thanks in advance. Jolene

Hi What i really like about Jalie pattern is that you often have 22 size in one pattern so you can adjust the size in whatever way you like. Right now I am using the underwear pattern for my DD 7yo and myself LOL she is a size 5 (kid) ans I am a size 18 and the pattern is perfect for her and me. I copy the pattern and will use the size that will fit my waist and adjust for the bust and such. They are worth every cent you spend on it. Yannick

Jolene, sounds like you are kinda shaped like me.. I bought a book by Sandra Betzina and it has patterns that go with it.. The book is the instructions part of the patterns.. They are the best fitting garments I have ever made for myself. The name is "No Time To Sew" (fast and fabulous patterns and techniques for sewing a figure-flattering wardrobe) Its a Rodale Sewing Book..Pattern comes with it.. "Rodale Designer Collection" featuring Sandra Betzina.. Vest, Jacket, Slim pants, full pants, T-shirt, dress Tuxedo shirt, Gored skirt.. Multisize patterns: Small, Medium, and Large..The T-shirt is wonderful.. Its the kind you can wear with everything, even suits.. I ordered mine from the publisher.. Rodale Press, Emmaus, Pennsylvania..You may be able to get a used one on E-bay or something, but be sure you get the patterns with it..Printed on the back of the book are endorsements by Marcy Tilton, Margaret Islander, and Clotilde..Price printed on my book is $29.95 . (price higher in Canada) Sew With Love

I just made the v neck short sleeved version of this pattern, Jalie 2005, and I too did not want the snug fit. I could tell by measuring the pattern that it would be way too tight for my comfort. So what I did was to trace off and make the shirt 3 sizes larger. Worked perfectly, with some ease but not too much. The only caveat was that the shoulders were about 1/2 inch too long, which I thought would happen. But I think if I wash the t-shirt the shoulders might shrink a bit to fit properly. The shirt was easy to make, and the cut and fit of it is very nice. And this is on the first try. I am finding it takes me 2 tries to get a pattern perfect for me! I will try to post a picture later. I find that the fit of many not so name brand patterns is superior. ALthough I have to give credit to Butterick/Vogue for their Sandra Betzina patterns. The fit is superb. And, I tend to like Burda patterns for fit too. I've gotten to be a fan of Silhouette patterns too. I didn have to adjust the tank top around the hip area, but it was an easy fix. I've used Kwik Sew for my kiddo, but never myself. Any reports on their fit? Shelly Moon

I've heard that the Jalie T shirt pattern is snug. I really enjoy this thread. I have the pattern and the fabric ready but it's still sitting in the pile.

Hi, Since I posed this question, I have bought a few more Independants. I went to a Martha Pullen convention and met Louise Cutting and went to 2 of her classes. I have bought 3 of her patterns, made the OneSeam Pants and really like them. Her patterns and instructions are fantastic. I have also bought the Jalie T-shirt, but have not made it yet. I am sure that is one I may have to take some time with to decide how I big I want it. I have bought a Burda, again haven't made it yet. I saw the designer of Park Bench Patterns at the convention and am very interested in some of her stuff, may have to try hers sometimes too. I have just learned sometimes the extra money that we pay for the other patterns is well spent. Jolene
