Hey there, Does any one know of any tank top patterns with the shelf bra built in? It is probably easy to figure it out but I am really new at clothing construction and I would rather spend the time making extra tops!! Any help would be appreciated!! |

There is a great book called Sewing Lingerie that Fits by Morris http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=mHu1CeT8HS&isbn=156158309X&itm=1 It tells you that you need to take the pattern for the front of a tank top then you make the shelf bra from that front pattern and cut it off at 5 inches below the arm pit. Then you extend on each side at the bottom of the shelf bra an inch on the side seams. Then taking your under bust measurement for the front of your body you cut a piece of elastic. I like mine snugger then that but it is a personal choice. You then gather the shelf bra evenly to the elastic. then you secure the elastic in the side seams as you sew the front and back of the tank top together. I hope this makes cents The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!
