Hi there,

I'm new at the garment construction so I hope I used the correct terminology.

I'm looking at a pair of ready made shorts and the waistband is not the typical foldover band. IT looks like two peices of material sewn together and then sewn on as a waistband. Hope that is clear?

I have searched this site and the internet but have not found any instructions on how to do this. I have several sewing books but they only describe the fold over band and elastic bands.

Does anyone know of where I can find the instructions to do this technique??

You could use a regular waistband pattern and just split it lengthwise and add seam allowances to each edge and go from there.. Personally I don't like that kind, but " to each her own".. I had a pattern like that once upon a time and I changed it to the traditional waistband..

I would do the same as LeapFrog Libby explained. However like her I prefer the fold over waistband. You can top stitch all around the band, it looks the same but without the bulkY seam around the top of the band.
