Please respond here if you can help, thanks. Hello I am a new to sewing and I was wondering if you would know an easy way to line up button to sew with machine that matches the button hole already in the garment. thank you M.F. MaryW

I'm not sure I understand, but here's what I do.... I line up the sides of the blouse/jacket (whatever it is that has buttons) like I'm going to button it. Layed down flat on a table.I make sure all is lined up and then I put a pin through the button hole, just as if I were buttoning it, (pinned up/down or sideways whichever it is) then sew the button on top of the pin..making sure it's not in the way of my sewing/needle. ( some machines can be used to sew buttons on, just drop your feed dogs and sew, making sure you hit the holes and NOT the button). The pin can be pulled out when you're done....I prefer to hand sew buttons, that way you don't get them too tight.... Is that what you wanted to know ??? Chrys

I do mine a little different. After doing all the lining up and making sure everything is straight, I use either a disappering marker or chalk to make a mark right where the button should go. I hate marking with pins, basically because I'm a clutz and either stick myself or they fall out and I have to redo it. Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.
