I am an experienced sewer but still have problems with waistbands. As I have peaked over the 50 mark by a few years I have had to adjust my patterns in the waistband. I seem to have a few problems getting the waistband to fit perfectly to the top part of the pants. I adjust both but evidently am not doing it correctly because they don't fit as well as I would like. I have many books on garment construction but never seem to be able to find information on how to make the waistband and pant top larger than the pattern and both of them fit well. I use the notches to match up evenly around the top of the pant. Any hints and tips on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Kathy Kathy

Look at your adjusted pattern pieces very carefully.. Does the body part curve at the very edge of the pattern piece, or does the curve start AFTER the seam allowance?? When I was learning to adjust pattern pieces, I stumbled a few times early on because I was matching edges, not at the seam line..I then got in the habit of leaving my waistband a couple of inches longer than it should be , just for insurance... Most of the time i had to cut it off when finishing, but once or twice I needed that extra or part of it..
