I dress very casually. However, I bought an awesome blue silk dupionni to make up.

I have 2.5 m and need a nice casual, but nice, (ya know what I mean) jacket or something.

Any pattern suggestions?

Can you give us some hints, such as your body type, what sort of style you like, e.g. shaped, boxy, short, long, etc.

Do you want something with style lines that make the jacket, or something simple that you'd embellish with special buttons, embroidery, etc.?

Something rather plain, I want the fabric to be the focus.

I am 5'7" and 155.

How about Burda 25107 (look at it on sewingpatterns.com). It is shown in a silk, simple lines with a minimalist but interesting collar. They have another jacket pattern, much longer, shown in silk and it is just too big an expanse of one material. I think this short one is just right.

Mary,
I made Linda Kubik's (Elements) Jacket 101 in a tussah silk and loved it. It would look great in dupionni, too -- and be a little lighter weight. The pattern is so simple that it looks good, even in the heavy silk, for almost any style from jeans to dressy.
It was easy to put together too.
I had fun with the lining, loud and bright, but no one knows it until you take it off.

I don't know if you read Eunice Farmer's column. One of her letters last week was a request for a jacket pattern(computer has been down-must be contagious) She responded that she loves Vogue 1643. There are 4 styles in one pattern. She said that she has 9 in her closet and that she has made them out differnt fabrics and silk was one she listed. I may have to break down and get this pattern, the drawings shown with the column looked very stylish yet casual.

Good choice. Are you going to line it? With silk dupionni maybe you could underline it. I was just thinking that would keep the seams from pulling and such.

Yes, I have some very fine cotton batiste just waiting.

I do like that Elements pattern though. Very elegant.

That sleeve is very cool -- let us know how it goes in, easy or difficult.
