I just finished talking to an online friend who has her in-laws visiting for 2 weeks. She is about ready to scream. LOL.

I can remember when I was in this exact spot. Who is having visitors this summer, how do you entertain them and is it usually enjoyable for everyone involved?

I have a SIL visiting for 2 weeks but we all get along fine. She seems to fit right in with us wingnuts. LOL.

I have had other family members over the years.

No way would anyone want to visit our home-it's home to 3 cat, 3 kittens, a gradeschooler and 2 large dogs. Not all at the same time and the dogs stay outside but, that's beside the point.

I've stayed with relatives at the beach cabin though and one quickly realizes that alone time is essential to get through the "time togehter". Personally, I prefer one-on-one time with people separately. Child together are okay, though. That I can handle.

Oy, I'm usually so glad to leave these family get togethers. Now I just spend time with my mother, wheneve possible. she's very easy to get along with and we challenge each other to finish crosswords. And we walk on the beach, watch movies, go shopping, knit. This is so much more satisfying, emotionally and mentally.

We just had hubby's brother and his wife visit for 4 days. They arrived the day after we got home from a vacation in D.C. and visiting another brother of hubby's in Virginia Beach.
We always have a nice time when they visit, but I'm still trying to catch up on housework. I hadn't even unpacked from our vacation when they got here. Plus I was trying to put veggies in the freezer.

No time for sewing lately. :bluesad: Maybe next week.

I would love it if someone came to visit. Being in the NWT is ver isolateing because people think it is too far to go.

Don't feel bad Sherri. Our families act like Oklahoma is on the other side of the world from West Virginia. They tell us that it is too far for them to travel but hey, dh and I have nothing else to do but travel back and forth between Oklahoma and West Virginia. They apparently haven't figured out that the highways run west as well as east. Same thing with the phone lines.

A few years ago my parents traveled from Oklahoma City to Vancouver, up the Yukon Trail and all the way to Inuvik. They heard that Tuk....don't even try to get me to spell that was a wonderful place so they flew there. (I was upset because they didn't go over the Magnetic North Pole.) They had a wonderful time and loved the country! They came home by way of Sand Diego...go figure!

What are holidays ? It's been three years since I have been able to get away but I'm enjoying my garden ( not today... it's too damn hot out there ! !) However I'm helping the lucky people who are away--- my neighbours on each side have left me in charge of their cats(5)and fish(haven't counted). Cats I am used to but fish are a new experience for me ... I just hope they sirvive for another two weeks.

Sherri send me the directions and I will come and visit, I'm ready for a vacation!!!!!!!

DH and I are talking about going to the Falls for a few days. I enjoy the Canadian side more than our side. I just love to walk the gardens there. And just once I would love to eat in the revolving needle resturant!!!!!. When kids were in school's marching band they would always march in the Grape and Wine Festival Parade in ST Catherine. Everyone alway welcomed the band with big cheers, guess it was the school colors that they like- Purple & White!!!!:bg:

We just got back from taking grkids to African Lion Safari and Toronto's Wonderland and then took them home to Ottawa. They have a crazy house, no extra bedrooms, a cat and a dog, and are always running to soccer games and tournaments. We opted to stay with my dtrs in-laws that live 5 minutes away. Much better for everyone. They have the room and no pets (I'm allergic) and kept inviting us to stay with them so we finally took them up on the offer. Entertaining house guests (at least some house guests) can be a challenge. I think sending house guests on a day long activity alone is a good idea, gives everyone a break.

I love having company. I love cooking and cleaning and making family plans. In fact if any of you are every in our area you can come on over for good eats and fun!

We just had my family up to visit weekend before last. I love having them, but they kind of just want to sit around on their arses and do nothing. Next week we have our friend with kidney stones and his Russian girlfriend. Then we are slated to visit with our vegan friends weekend after that. I will have to be very creative to think of how to cooK!

I love making meals but I have SO many single / bachelor friends who act as if the family-style meals I make take the same trouble as the hot dogs they are used to. I like it when guests notice the love you put into a meal!

there is no other way to spell it is there? I thought the other way meant a creature like a donkey?

Tony and I are running away to France for a fortnight and the house is being invaded by teenage/college friends of the yong 'uns. Standard house rules apply - no drugs, if you throw up-get it in the toilet, if you break it - you pay for a replacement and no metal work on the leather sofas. This is very hard for Basil the Boyfriend as he clanks. He has just bought a suit of armour. Yes it's true. They clean up though so no worries, and it's a darn sight better than being here with them with all that going on! They have a tendency to swing claymores in the garden - not my preferred method of deadheading the roses, but hey.

Blackie I love entertaining also.

Jan have a good weekend in France and think of me often while you're away, because I'll be thinking of you in France. I figure that's better than not being able to join you physically. :bg:

We're having our first summer weather in central Oklahoma. We officially haven't broken a hundred yet but parts of our state are going over the 100 mark. We had morning rain that made the humidity 48% at 5 this afternoon with temps pushing toward 98. It has been almost tropical here...lower 90's mid-upper 80's with lots of rain don't know when I've seen a summer where the lawns have been absolutely lush in August! We usually burn up about the second week of June or at least by July 1.

We have had 4 days of 85 degree weather. That is quite warm for us, it's usually in the high 70's or low 80's. We never have warm weather for a long stretch. After a couple of days it cools down so we are really enjoying it. Some love the heat but as soon as it gets warm, I swell up. My knuckles disappear. LOL.

I have to say I enjoy it cooler. My favorite time of year is the fall. I love the cool days and the leaves turning colour.

I'm with you Mary. I'd love to have it fall all year round. We don't have much of a fall or spring here. It goes from Damp and nasty and chilly to hot, wet and humid. But then again I couldn't take the cold in your Winters.

Hello! Back from the whistle stop tour of Normandy beaches, Mont St Michel, restaurants, and my favourite - the Bayeaux tapestry. It is amazing - 900 year old embroidered comic strip! It has so many funny bits on it - a guy (naked) examining his acoutrements! a Prostitute at work, one chap escaping from the Normans by hanging out of the window on a rope. It was meant to tell a story and it does - at a time when most people coldn't read they had to read the pictures. Reminded me of a scene carved in wood in Notre Dame (yes, Paris) where Mary is talking to Jesus after the resurrection and she thinks he is the gardener. It is obvious to anyone why she thinks he is the gardener - he's leaning on a shovel.

I did think of you Susie - mostly when admiring all the seafood! I am a touch heavier than when I went but hey!

Jan is your house still in tack!!!! LOL I thought of you often. I bet the seafood was very good. And the French can cook that's where my decendants come from France so you see I have lots of French influence. I bet the trip was wonderful. Glad you came back safely.

It's been in the upper 90's for the 2 weeks. Relentless heat. No air conditioning in the house and the kittens are sprawled on the kitchen lineoleum, panting. The heat sucks!

I am so ready for The Fall! Going through my knitting patterns now, gearing up. Checking eBay for boot sales and doing a bit of school clothes shopping. Straightenng up the house and try to keep the plants outside alive in this heat.

House here, but mucky ( eugh!) I guess you mean your ancestors came from France as your descendants are your children:nah:
Lets face it - we english are a polyglot sort of race - my parents are celt ( small, dark haired, dark eyed, sallow skinned people)Tonys are saxon /norman (tall, light eyes, blond haired pale skinned people.) I have one small dark haired daughter and one tall blond daughter - ain't genetics weird.

enough crustacea in HOnfleeeur to satisfy even you, Susie!

We had a gang of Katie's friends around while we were away but they seemed to spend a lot of their tme tramping around woods and sleeping in bushes rather than using the house. Except for the ingrained black footprints in the new bath...

Eldest daughter leaves for Uni in three weeks - this means I have 2 weeks to finish an Elizabethan gown for a re-enactment the weekend before. We are probably giving Basil the Boyfriend a lift to Uni as well as they are going to the same place. Somehow we have to convince him that his suit of armour won't fit in the car...let alone the swords...and his feather are Huge... not to mention his codpiece...
