Anyone tried it? I ordered some for my 15yo son. A day after it arrived, I saw a product at WalMart that says "compare to Proactive" It was half the price. |

Nope, my kids used several different remedies. They all work to some degree.

I used ProActiv for a few months. It cleared up my skin quite a bit, but also dried it up -- as in WRINKLES! Probably not a concern for your son. But I think it is pretty harsh stuff and I wouldn't use it for long periods at a time. As far as the Walmart product goes, I've heard it's not as effective as Proactiv. I would recommend Aveda products. They are natural, gentle, and effective. Expensive! However I get my Aveda off eBay and that helps. When I am good about using it, it keeps my skin very nice. Make sure your son drinks a lot of water as well. And of course, to some extent we all just have to suffer through the bad skin of adolescence. see the mundane life of a housewife.

Well, after three days use, my son's skin looks better. However, I don't think those little bottles are going to last 2 months like they said. I've never heard of Aveda products. I've used Mary Kay for years, but could never get my son to try it. He thinks it's just for girls. His aunt told him about proactiv and he had to try it. I'm hoping something like that will help clear up his acne. We went to the doctor and got a prescription cream that didn't help alot. I wanted to try something else before giving him a pill for it. |

Blech, we're going through this with my 12yos. There were a couple of things that helped...the first thing was MILK, on a cotton ball, at bedtime. Leave it dry on...worked like a charm for about 2 weeks! The next thing we tried was a generic wash with benzoil peroxide, along with an acne cream with the same ingredient. It's working really well. I can't afford the proactive, so this was as good as it gets until we can get some insurance and take him to a doctor. Allie "onward through the fog"

My 17 YO has had the problem for a few years. I found out with his sister that they just have to out grow it. Out of 6 kids 2 have had a major problem & they were the ones with the best baby skin.DD tried prescriptions & over the counter meds but nothing ever got rid of it until she was about 20 then it just got better. Make sure they do NO picking because that will cause permenant scarring. I have a nephew (34) who went to a dermatologist in his teens & his face doesn't look as good as Dd now after all the money they spent. some things you just have to wait for time to heal. These 2 are also my most phanatical about keeping clean. Face washes a couple times a day & never go without a shower. The 3 other teens in my house aren't as worried about keeping clean and very rarely have a blemish. I don't know the explanation for this but I just don't want these kids frustrated if nothing works for them but time.

My grandson is just starting to have his skin erupt into blemishes. He is 13, I hate to see it start.

My daughter (age 21) has used this product for about 3 years and finds it's the only thing that works for her. She swears by it . Since we live in Canada, we used to have to order it through the mail from an 1-800 number but now I see you can just buy it in some stores. If this works, it's still far and away a better idea than taking the prescription Accutane medication for severe acne -- it's such a toxic drug. We went that way with my son years ago and although it worked, I worry about the long term effects of such a medication. |

I agree Kaytee. My son was on medication for years for ADHD and TS. He's been off it for a while now and I don't like the idea of putting him on a strong medicine just for his acne. I'm not sure it's worth it. Every day now my son says "look, it's getting better". I think we might try the Walmart brand when the proactiv is all gone. It's expensive. I commented to my son that one of the main ingredients in the toner is witch hazel and that you could find it in a drug store. Of course he thinks it's not the same. He's been drinking more water. Maybe that's helped some too. Funny how I've told him that over and over but he's not convinced until his aunt tells him that. |

Hi Bama. I saw the W/M meds. you are talking about. I went back to purchase it and it was no longer there. I inquired and found out from the manager that it was "recalled." No reason was given to me. Just wanted to let you know. Maybe they have improved on it or corrected some ingredience and now W/M is handling it again. Charlotte |

Thanks Charlotte. I haven't checked for it at WalMart in a few weeks. DS's face cleared up alot for a while, but now it's breaking out again. Looks like we might see a dermatologist after all. It doesn't look that bad to me. I've seen alot worse, but DS is disgusted with it. |

Hi Bama, I have an adult skin problem that is sometimes associated with a type of acne. I am using a prescription gel that is specifically for that. I wanted to tell you about a skin cleanser that I have started using just in the past six months. I buy it at Wal-mart for about $9 per 16-ounce bottle. That sounds expensive, but you only need to use a small amount, so it lasts a long time. I am still on my first bottle. I am very impressed with this product as I notice a big change in my complexion. It's an excellent cleanser that does not clog pores, and is non-irritating to sensitive skin. I'm including a link so that you can read up on it. I think it would be really worth a try, perhaps in a smaller bottle or trial pack. http://www.mycetaphil.com/cleansers_and_moisturizers/cleansers1.cfm You will need to register to use the site, but it is free. By the way, I tried the Wal-mart knockoff, but it isn't the same. Take care,
