Hi all,

I am still making silly errors here, and need your advice on this one. I finished a blouse, and I must have been sleeping when I was fitting it.

I did a full bust alteration, but directed the dart to the original bust point which was of course lowered in the alteration! I finished sewing the blouse not even checking the dart placement as in the past I made the alteration was perfectly!

The blouse fits great except for the dart placement. I was wondering if I could rip out just the dart then re-sew the dart in the right direction (angle it up so it points to the point correctly). I wouldn't move the start of the dart at the seam, just change the angle and where the point ends up.

Has anybody done this? I don't think I would need to even open the side seam. It seems as if it would work, perhaps the area right close the the side seam would look a little funny.

I would sure try it. The only problem you might have is the cut at the end of the dart. The end of the dart is folded and then cut to fit the line of the garment. You might have a gap...but it might not be enough to cause a problem. Even if it is, you should be able to lower the dart enough to look better.

Thank you, Pam!

Hopefully I will not have to open the side seam, but even if I do it is better than giving up on this garment!

I am still learning, at least I have not repeated any of my mistakes!

No, you do have to open the side seam because you are changing the angle of the dart. That means that it has to change it's angle from the side seam all the way...you can do this..don't open much more than your dart width though, you won't need to do that.

Well, I stayed up until I finished repairing my mistake, it looks much better now with the darts pointing in the right direction! Thank you Pam for the encouragement!
