I am leaning toward making some simple curtains for my son's room out of chenille. I just love the fuzzy texture and I think it would be cozy looking as a window treatment in a baby's room. Before I buy my fabric, does anyone have any good tips for sewing this thick stuff? It seems like it would be awkward and the only info I found on the internet was for making my own chenille. Thank you! emermuffin

I made a Chenille purse once. It turned out very good and wasn't hard to sew. It wasn't as fluffy as the bedspread/bathrobe type stuff though. Remember to keep your machine clean. There is a lot of lint as I remember. Be sure to clean the machine when you finish too. Dorothy |

Well, I ditched the chenille idea. Too pricey for the fabric and I wasn't sure how to sew over the bulky parts! It would have been cute, I'm sure. My mom mentioned that she had fuzzy curtains in her room as a teenager and I loved that idea. I ended up getting some plain, unbleached cotton, tab top curtain panels and appliqued denim stars on them. Turned out pretty cute and I used my hubby's old blue jeans! emermuffin

Did you fuzzy up the edge of the stars? That would be cute. Dorothy |

No, I didn't fuzz up the edges. I wanted to but applique is very new to me so I just used fusible web and then satin stitched all the way around. They're are not perfect but that's ok. As soon as I have a little money, I can get some good thread and more web. (DH hasn't worked in 13 months now) I thought I would add some planets, maybe a comet or two and try to fray the edges. Thanks for the suggestion! emermuffin

If you want to add color you could get some cotton print with planets or cool moons on it. Use innerfacing to give it more bulk like the denim. I like to pad with innerfacing to add dimension. Dorothy |
