White Bread.

The new research I've read shows a correlation between waistline overhang to eaters of a lot of white bread. And, that includes Happy Meal buns, pizza crusts, taco shells and crackers. Basically, all processed flour products.

Fortunately, brown bread does not have the same effect and therefore can be eaten in moderation. Stone-ground brown bread is the better choice due to a different processsing. I have found that a sandwich made on brown bread, with lettuce and tomato is generally more filling than on white bread, and, I don't feel as sluggish afterward.

So, to those of you out there (and you know who you R) who fighting the battle of the bulge in that area, take a look
at your diet and see if a one week refrain from white bread helps. That's my goal this next week.

The reason for the white bread syndrome is simple. Bread is a carbohydrate that converts to sugar in the blood stream and therefore ups the production of insulin. They are now contributing what my heart doctor described as "midline obesity" to high productions of insulin due to the high consumption of foods that convert to sugar and thus high levels of insulin production. That's pretty much why the diabetic diet eliminates high carb and sugar foods.

Well, something else causes mine, because I loooove brown bread, Wheat, Rye, Pumpernickel, all of them are great, but my regular one is Whole Wheat... It has such a good flavor ! ! ! The only time I have bought a loaf of white bread in years is if I have to take sandwiches to a gathering, I take half and half White and Whole Wheat.. No, its 1/3 white and 2/3 whole wheat nowadays, since I noticed the brown sandwiches were disappearing faster..:bg: :bg: :bg:

Speaking of Happy Meal buns, everyone should see Supersize Me (the movie) - I guarantee, that will make you re-think what you are eating (especially when it comes to fast food).

Well here's some good news: 20 situps a day have gotten me back into a size smaller than I was wearing last week. And it didn't take any dieting to accomplish!

I've made my own bread for 50 years (the last 10 using a bread machine) because I hate bought white sliced bread and never eat it. I like sourdough bread, whole-wheat bread, mixed-grain breads, especially hot from the oven! Nothing smells or tastes better! I think my children all preferred freshly baked bread to cake. But now and then I treat myself to fresh croissants to make sandwiches. MariLynntx
